ss vs b16
ss vs b16
Im just wondering has anyone with an SS/sc raced a honda with a b16? I have a friend who has a 95 civic hatch, he did a b16 swap and has intake and exhaust. i have an 05 ss/sc with cai and exhaust. if we were to race would he beat me? He has been talking a lot of trash saying his car is alot faster than mine. Just looking for any info before we race. Thanks
i think you will take him..if u can drive.. i raced an integra with a b16 and his motor is buitl! and he onyl took me by about 2 maybe 2 1/2 cars from a dig its my top end that killed me. if ur s/c u have good top end and should pull him
I can foresee the honda winning if he takes you off the line. If you beat him before and into 3rd you should be fine. If your pretty even going into 3rd I can see him passing you cus of how light those cars are.
I think you'll beat him pretty good,I ran a[mostly] gutted Integra with a swaped B16a and beat him by 5-6 car lengths from 35-100ish.Now they probably have hotter versions of the motor, but the standard b16s 160hp and 111lb-ft of torque ain't gonna get the job done.
well the b16 with intake and exhaust is probably putting out around 180ish in the hp range but it's a honda so torque is still that cars problem. The thing is that the hatch weighs next to nothing so even though it has less torque and hp unless your beating him early on I can see that thing catching up.

u should beat him. i ran a guy at work who has a b16 swapped integra w/ exhaust intake and lightweight flywheel and he did not beat me very bad. he didnt pull until he was absolute top of 3rd gear, i was obviously in 4th. This was from a 20 roll and i have an ls
a b16 is only rated about 160 flywheel hp stock....I'm assuming a dyno of about 140-150 maybe to the wheels...but only about 110 ft. lb. of torque......should be an easy win for the ss........I ran a hatch with a b18c1 swap a few weeks ago and took him pretty good.
but this isn't a stock b16. I have seen some of those put out an additional 25 plus hp with a complete exhaust system alone. Assuming he does have a complete exhaust and an intake he could very well be in a good hp range and with those things weighing in at just slightly over 2k pounds almost a 1k pounds difference you would be a fool to not at least take the race seriously. This doesn't mean much to a modded ss/sc but as far as I understand it the ss in this race is stock.
you will most likely lose by maybe a car length. not much. when i had just gm stage 2 i raced my buddy in his 95 j-spec b16 swapped hatch with full i/h/e, lightweight crank pulley, gutted interior, Tein suspension. I had him by maybe 2 cars at the end of the 1/4 mile, 3 tenths difference in ET. he would have had me a lil w/o stage 2.
go race. it will be close either way.

I'm telling you no way a b16 or any Naturally Aspirated 4cyl will ever gain 25 plus hp from an exhaust alone, not even with intake and exhaust. that's crazy and ludicrous to think. You haven't seen that either, so don't say you have. This race should be an easy win for the ss.
I also concur with others saying 'Just go out and race already!' And GL!

Thats a Spoon Sports - 4-2-1 configuration header test from stock headers. So take what you will from that add an intake and oh I dunno something will increase. Roughly 6 hp increase from a set of headers put a dp on with a high flow cat get another 5 or so get a full exhaust get another 8 maybe but depends lets find the happy medium and you end up with about 19ish hp increase no cat would push that into the 20's add an intake ... you see where I am goin with this?

cobalt addicton shows a 10hp gain on a 2.4, they said a bigger gain on the 2.0, We'll just stick with the 10hp since that is already a rediculous number.
cobalt addiction shows another 10hp from a downpipe.
cobalt addiction lists the injen intake as a 17hp increase.
so with all that, you would gain about 37hp from an intake and exhaust setup. Now if you were going to gain that much from some bolt ons, on a forced induction car at that, then why would you ever even buy stage 2? Show me where a cobalt ss has put out 37hp more than stock with these mods. YOU WON'T FIND ONE. Just because the people that made the product claim that much power, doesn't mean thats how much it will put out. Do you get where I'm coming from?
+20hp from and intake and exhaust on a N/A 4cyl just isn't happening, sorry. NO. Nadda. Let's think before we post for now on, ok?
you can't just add numbers together from different parts. that's not how the modding world works. If WE did this then WE should be putting out more power than WE do on our SS/SC's. Let me give you an example.

The Integra I ran with my STOCK SS/SC had a header, full exhaust[with no cat],intake, lightweight flywheel, some kind of aftermarket clutch, and solid mounts and maybe a couple more small things, and it was a jdm motor.Like I said we went from about 30-35mph,with me in 2nd[about 3500rpms,well below the Colbalt's sweet spot]and him in 1st already in vtec.Like I said it was 5-6 cars by 100 and was growing fast.Take that for what it's worth.
so basically your saying that your not getting what a dyno says if you did a baseline prior to then after the upgrade in question? That's new but im certainly open to new ideas. Why is it so hard to believe that you get more power with additional effeciency mods? if it had no real affect then why would anyone purchase any modifications? Honestly now it isn't hard to believe that there are real gains when upgrading but alot of times unless you dyno your car before and after an upgrade you can't assume anything which is not what I was doing. I was going off of dyno numbers but I mean I didn't turn the wheels myself with my bare hands to get the numbers so I used the dyno print I provided to show that a simple upgrade to a b16 is like giving that engine candy as it really takes well to upgrades. I didn't say your getting blown out of the water increase in power but I wasn't ignoring the fact that power does increase as you increase effeciency. Not sure where the hostility comes from but hey if your mad that a honda can gain power by adding a complete intake and exhaust perhaps you shouldn't look at a dyno sheet from a turbo'd b16.
You just negated yourself when you added at the end of your post the dyno of a turbo b16. I said nothing about turbo or any Forced Induction 4 cyl. I was talking only about Naturally Aspirated 4 cyl. Turbo and other Forced Induction vehicles gain a lot more from those simple mods BECAUSE you are moving a lot more air. Do you get where I'm going with this?
no, no, no, no, no, what you are doing, is taking dyno's of different things, and adding them together. I can gaurantee you that if you were to add an intake and full exhaust to whatever said b16 that is NATURALLY ASPIRATED (no turbo or supercharger) that you would not see a 20 hp gain. Not only that, but you'd only put out about 136whp give or take a few.
