i'm guessing that the gray piece, where the ball sits in may be worn?

i have a TWM and it's pretty solid... bearing in mind that ANY cable shifter is going to have alittle bit of play to it.

Everything tightened down? There will always be a little play in any shifter. Does it move side to side? Rotate? What? If it rotates, make sure to tighten everything down. My Hurst does that and it's because the one screw on it needs re-tightened.

You know how you can slide it back and forth in neutral?

It is like that in gear...it stays in gear...more of an annoyance than anything...

I dunno what to tell ya, some play in that is normal. But when I went from stock to the Hurst, it certainly didn't increase.

I had the same problem, and it only cost me $4.00 to fix. There is supposed to be a ruber o-ring inbetween the gray ball receiver and the black retainer clip. It puts pressure on the gray socket that goes around the shifter ball and prevents it from moving up and down side to side. I went to Home Depot and got a Delta Faucet o-ring kit (I have the number at home). The kit has 4-5 o-rings in it from 1"-1.5". Worked like a charm. Now the shifter is in there with no play. I'll get some pictures when I get a chance. Hope this helps.
