How much interest would there be in a Brembo Brake Kit for the SS
Didn't all the GM Racing Cobalt's use the OE Cobalt SS braking system with racing pads? Why the hell do you guys need to stop faster? Youre going to put yourself in the hospital for whiplash.
Also it'll be over $2000... That money could be better spent in the area of increase of lateral g forces (supercharger swap for you folk that didn't catch me the first time
)
What happens when you come to a studden stop with Brembo brakes :

Why would I base my choice off what a pure track car needed? I would rather have something that looked good as well as being functional. Some of you get off on tangents and may not know what each individual person wants in their car. Not everyone wants a track car.
I think that if someone was going to replace the brakes in their Cobalt SS, that they would have a serious reason for it and would go all the way. As stated above, simple racing pads can get the job done.
VaMP, I would also recommend stainless steel brake lines too. $100 well spent, IMHO.
I plan this spring to install Baer Track Plus 13" brakes on my Prix. I have upgraded the brakes two other times previously, and am not satisfied with the results.
But, I have about 1000 more pounds to stop than a cobalt. I have been very impressed with the stock brakes on my cobalt, much better than what stock was on my GP.

Watch those stock rotors. I know 4 of the AZ SS/SC cars, mine included, need the rotors turned or replaced already. I just flipped 4k, ExHondaMan is around 6-7k, Bulldog around 7k, and Vendian around 5-6k. Pads look great though. I don't brake really hard, but the rotors are groved 5 times worse than my mom's 03 Monte Carlo SS with 32k. The dealer told Bulldog the pads GM put on are too hard.
I would be interested in a kit from Brembo if the price was reasonable, along the lines of pricing for the SSBC kit, but knowing that Brembo is always more expensive it would be more of a BLING item than a necessity. Considering that GM used the stock brakes for the Grand Am cup cur with upgraded pads and stainless steel lines I would imagine that they are sufficient enough.
The brakes are very good on the SS, 60-0 stopping is about 117 ft...and even in SCC magazines "ultimate rides" contest this year all the 350Z's and S2000's with huge brake upgrades were only hitting 113-118ft.
I would be interested in Brembo drilled rotors, stainless lines and some really good soft but streetable pads for sure! But i don't think a big brake kit is really needed other then for the bling factor.

Big Brakes helped both our SS and RL. We looked at a few brands that were offered to us prior to the SEMA show, and then eneded up choosing a brand that we had never worked with before: SSBC. SSBC fronts alone are considerably better than OEM. With a racing pad, I am sure the SSBC kits will be even better.
Additionally, on our non-SS Cobalt, we tested the Powerslot+Hawk Front set-up and it made a noticable improvement over stock. But again, it is nothing compared to the clamping force of the SSBC kit...
