Money not a issue... what mods?

Ok.. Im in a situation where Im getting ready to start modifying my Cobalt SS/SC. Money is not a issue. I'll be using this car as a daily driver. Im thinking after market hood, spoiler, intake, wheels, stage II and springs. Ive done nothing but drive this car, it has not a single mod other than what Ive down with the badges.

what mods would you do? I dont come here often and I dont really know what to do outstide of what I listed. Ill get a custom paint job on the hood and possibly very little done to the rest of the paint.

Any suggestions are welcomed. If you have part numbers that would be great too. I really dont wanna touch the interior, but different gauges might be something Id do

discuss...

case in point. these mods are COMPLETELEY worthless without traction mods.

if you're going to mod like this, and don't get slicks, axles, mounts, etc, you're wasting your time and money.

the pulley I plan to use will probably be the GM Stage II. I want to keep my warranty (yes I know... Im lame) and I dont wanna worry about everything going to hell in a couple of years. I suppose Id be interested in something much more radical (say Stage III) If I knew more about it. I guess I need to start doing some reading.

Anyone ever bought the Sun Coast Ram Air hood? I wanna deal with a good company. I came very close to getting majorily screwed with my 01 Z28 on a hood.

these SS/SC's seem every limited with what you can do

if you'r elooking to keep your warrenty, yes. if you don't care about warrenty, there's not a single thing you can't do especially if money is not an issue.

ok.. lets assume Ill go outside the warranty thing. without going plum crazy what do yall suggest? this will be a daily driver. twin SC's or twin Turbos is something I dont wanna do. When I say money is not a issue Im referring to this. I have a $20,000 check coming. I have a family and dont wanna blow the whole thing on my Cobalt of all things. But I do plan on having one sick looking Cobalt when Im finished. I went pretty crazy on my 01Z28. I ended up going about $8,000 into that car and it was brand new also. some exterior but mostly performance mods (cam, headers, gears, suspension stuff etc..)

come on guys, lay it on me. Im a 8 cyc rear wheel kinda guy. Once I start getting some ideas, Ill do my research and make my decisions

Warranty is my friend as well. I'm not looking for the fastest car around, or i wouldn't have bought a FWD.
I am going the route of GM Stage II, and GM Performance exhaust in addition to my AEM intake and Ingalls torque dampner.
And in light of your last post. Save some money for the upcoming Camaro! It'll be much more fun than the Cobalt, imo. (i'm a RWD fan)

List in Order if Cash in not a problem:

TTR Motor Mount / More power to the ground, reduce wheel hop.

TTR Tranny Mount (front and back) / Reduce wheel hop, and more power to the ground.

Exedy clutch, flywheel, pressure plate / No clutch slip, durable to hold hard launches. Quicker revs.
Break in Mounts and Clutch for 500miles

Stage II Drive Shop Axles / For running slicks or drag radials, stock will break.

Would get a full 3" or 2.5" exhaust. Few kits out there. / Helps the engine breath baby!

ZZP 3" Downpipe with highflow cat / Goes along with the exhaust. More Power!

Rebel CAI / Again, more power, supercharge whine. Rebel is a 3" CAI tube.

Header at your personal prefrence.

Now that you have a entirly free flowing car. (intake, header, downpipe, highflow cat, exhaust) its time to enchance that air flow and work that supercharger. There is a few routes you can go. Again if cash was not a issue I would go the following:

GM Dual Pass intercooler end plate / needed for future mods with SC pullies (dont get this if you plan on getting Rebel's supercharger swap and tune because GM dual pass will not work with it.)

CA Heat Exchanger / needed got future mods with SC pullies

Polished Intake Manifold

Polished Supercharger (inside and out) I would not port it, if you do a very very slight port would be good enough.

Rebel TB spacer and a Larger Throttle Body from a V8 Chevy Truck
60 lbs. Fuel Injectors
GM Stage II belt
Nate's 2.8 inch supercharger pulley
Dyne tune (all these things would have to be done at one time)

OR

Rebel's supercharger swap and dyno tune.

Now that your pushing around 300whp with a tune its time to get that suspension tuned.
Strut Bar
Coil Overs
Front & Rear Sway Bars
Light Weight Racing Wheels (For Auto X)
Some 16" wheels with slicks or Drag Radials (For Drag Strip)

Right there would be one hell of a cobalt. You would have many more options for future mods like a built forged motor and valve springs, cams, ect. Have fun.

Edit Post: Now that I see you want to keep your warnity, I would say all the same mods I said except go stage II with Nate's 2.9 supercharger pulley and just swap back to the Stage II pulley if you have any issues. That is all...

thank god im not alone! Im a huge Camaro fan and plan on buying one regardless. If I dont spend to much on my Cobalt when its paid off the 5th Gen Camaro will still be in production and Ill own one of those too. it would be sweet to own both SC'd Cobalt and a Z28 Camaro

Thats my plans. Heres to not going hog wild on mods and blowing my 5th Gen Camaro down payment money

Well, if money is a issue and I was planning on getting a new Camaro I would only do Stage II, GMP Touring Exhaust, Air Box Mod, GMP Manifold, GMP dual pass and be done with it.

Thank you! You have me in the right direction now. Ill start doing some research on these mods and go from there. I wont do all of them. But I definitely wanna build up the drive train. I really wanna keep my stock muffler. I HATE the sound of 4 cyc's with after market exhaust. if anything Ill go with a different header and piping. But Ill probably keep the muffler or go with an after market one thats really quiet. I had planed on going with an after market clutch and a dyno tune but forgot to mention that as well

Ill have yet another 10-25k check when my Cobalt is paid off!

But yeah.. I may not go to crazy with my Cobalt. Cold air, clutch, drive train stuff, stage II, hood and spoiler (yanking the wing) and wheels...

oh and I like those black halo head lights.

Man, my car is not loud at all. Everyone loves the sound. The GMP Touring Exhaust is a very mild low tone sound to it. (I to hate the typical 4 banger sound, if its done right it sounds great) The GMP Sport Exhaust is louder and has more of a raspy sound. With the following set up you would run like 13.6-13.7 in the 1/4th mile and the car would not be load at all. Once you get a CAI though the supercharger whine gets loud if your full throttle. GMP Touring Exhaust, GMP manifold, AirBox mod, Stage II and your golden for warnity and a quick decent car. Will sound awesome to.

yeah thats about what I want out of this car. I want a solid 13 sec car. and I want it to turn alot of heads in parking lots. Im normally not so much into modding the exterior. but these cars are simply begging for it with they way they are put together.

any suggestions on black or gun metal wheels with a polished lip? discount tire I think had 2 maybe 3 different kinds. that kinda sucks. I was hoping for many different options.

thanks for the input

very interesting! Is it true warranty or do you know someone, have a hook? If this is totally legit then I might go that route

Totally legit. As long as parts are from GM, you should not have a problem.
