Stage II Purchase/Install in Alberta
Stage II Purchase/Install in Alberta
Hi guys,
Where is everyone having the best experience in price and service with the installation of the Stage II kit? Because of the great Canadian dollar, I've thought about purchasing it from somewhere like CED and then have a local dealer put it in for me (to keep my extended warranty going strong). I've also thought that maybe some of the Canadian dealers will be selling the kit for cheaper due to the TC coming out soon and them also being able to buy the kits for less money.
What are your experiences?

When i had my stage 2 i bought it from CED (best price at the time, even better with the dollar now), I also installed it myself and limped it to the dealer to get the flash done. Even though i did it myself I was still covered under warrenty. You might just want to check with the dealership you are going to bring it to first because some can be douches.
I got my Stage 2 kit for $500 bucks from www.crateenginedepot.com and got it installed at my local dealer for $200!
If you walked into a Canadian dealer and said twinscrew swap, i can almost guaranty you they would have no clue what you are talking about.

nicholson chev did it for me, and no they didn't have to sign off on anything. They actually encouraged me to get it too.
So, how did they guarantee you were still under warranty? Also, how much did they charge you for just the flash?
I think I'm more than competent enough to do the install myself and then get it flashed, especially if it still would be under warranty.

the gm stage 2 doesn't void your warranty, and actually most aftermarket mod's don't unless they are the direct cause of the malfunction in question.
ie you install and aftermarket radio by yourself and manage to short out all your electrical it would not be covered as the mod was the direct cause to the short.

I can almost guarantee that most people that install Stage II themselves and have a motor problem will have the dealership point the problem to that. GM does not actually like spending a bunch of money covering warranty issues and if the dealership can find something to blame to avoid it, they will.
ya and working in a gm dealership i see alot of that but a good techinician won't do that. like i know for us if one of the many corvettes that come in with either a supercharger or twin turbo as they have been known to do their powertrain warranty is void because those type of things instantly void it. and honestly if you do it yourself or have a technician do the install its really hard to tell either way who installed it. the only thing is to get the flash done you would have to go to the dealership.
But its got to be a honest relastionship, you have to be reasonable about what should be covered under warrenty. I think its most people who try and get at fault problems fixed under warrenty that ruin it for the rest of us.
I also heard that southgate is a really good dealership to goto. They were one of the first to stick a northstar in a solstice.
