are you just doing it for mileage? i think the gearing in our car is fine the way it is. wot shifts keep the car in it's powerband, and with the instant boost less shifts i would think would be better.

how much did the tranny itself cost?

From What Ive Read, The 6 Speed Conversion Basicly Ands A Gear Between 1st And 2nd, So You Wouldn't Get Any Better Millage, But It Would Be A Nice Upgrade If You Auto Cross

so if you don't autocross there's really no reason to do it, right? or is there any benefit. i'm not trying to knock anyone here, i'm really just wondering what the benefit to this is.

the guy above posted that it's only an extra gear between first and second. which would mean it wouldn't help mileage at all. if it was the same gearing and an extra gear at the end that would be good for mileage. what has your research shown on that?

if it's truly the case where it's an extra gear between first and second, i bet both gears would now be useless, and would involve an extra shift.

May save gas on the highway though. I know that mine would sit at like 3K when cruising at about 80mph. Maybe this will drop that RPM down a bit up top.

.70 IS A BETTER O/D THAN .704, HE WILL GET WORSE MILLAGE IF ANYTHING

IM NOT TRYING TO BE A DICK, BUT THATS WHAT WILL HAPPEN THIS CONVERSION WILL MAKE THE CAR MORE MELLO FOR DAILY DRIVING AND ALLOW FOR MORE OPTIONS WHEN AUTOXING, OTHER THAN THAT THE STOCK SETUP WILL OUT PROFORM IT IN ACCELERATION AND IN MILLAGE, BUT WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, ON THE PLUS SIDE HIS CLUTCH MIGHT LAST LONGER :p

Actually, sum 1 figured it out in another thread. Its worse gas milage! Its better for take off and racing, but worse on gas.

Yes, there is already a thread on this info.... I just don't feel like finding it. I think Area47 did the calc on it

so if this is accurate, i would say doing it just to be different is a bad way to spend close to 5 grand? good thing you posted. would have hated to see someoen think they're getting something , spend thousands of dollars and find out it was the opposite of what they were looking for

especially when that 5 grand could go to upgraded clutch, flywheel, axles, and so much else...

There should be no change in gas mileage, .05 of a gear isn't going to make much of a change.

I'm with sky on this, I'd go for a six speed if I had the chance

0-60 should be a little better... not worth that much tho $$

Id be more interested in looking to swap over the F40 trans to the LSJ....

Not necessarily. With the shorter gear ratios, yes, you're going to get through the gears quicker but chances are you are going to have two shifts (points where you're not accelerating at all) before you hit 60. and like hack said. the extra .04 probably isn't going to hurt gas mileage that much, the only difference will be that you'll be shifting a bit more. I think this might be a good upgrade for the turbo guys who need to keep the revs up to keep the snail spinning.

I used to have a Vibe GT with the 6 speed. 5th and 6th are just over drive gears, which looks like what your going to have. The good thing is now your 4th gear will have pull, instead of being a OD gear. Otherwise you need to be going down hill with the wind to your back .....lol

i don't get doing a tranny swap for show. again, not being a dick, i just don't get it. is someone going to look in the car, and look at the shifter and say "wow, it's a 6 speed!" if you're going for show, isn't there a whole lot of better things to buy?

.70 AND .704 ARE ACTUALLY the SAME. lol. It's just the difference of rounding or not rounding.

i think the 1/4 will be faster but only slightly because of 1st gear.

The gear ratios are FANTASTIC and yield 7-10% faster acceleration in gears 2-5, not to mention a much needed change to first gear. The stock transmission drops the RPM to a pathetic ~3500RPM on the 1-2 shift. This is absolute crap because because the motor can be tuned to make most torque in the 4500-7000 range.

Also these high strength gears combined with the quaife LSD would make for one tough transmission. Considering the amount of blown transmissions on this forum then it starts to make a bit more sense.

At the current price it certainly is for a select few of us, but we can hope the price comes down a grand or two.
