It's going to be confusing to sell a S/C and turbo version of the Sky. Obviously the turbo version will be better unless they throw an M90 and that sucker then we are talking. The M62 is too small for a 2.0L displacement IMO. Eaton claims the M62 is good for 2.5 to 3.5L displacement motors with small compression. The M90 would kill the rods though in the 2.0L

Nice to see the 4.2L Inline 6 go to 291hp---thats only 1hp behind the 4.6L V8 in the Explorer! Never mind Fords POS 4L Gms inline 6 is an awesome engine---very smooth--and after 5K rpm it really takes off--shifting at 6200rpm.

The paddleshift in the Corvette is not an SMG--just a regular auto with paddle shifters.
But its a 6 speed auto!

Aura is the first fwd Gm to get the new 6 speed auto as well.

I know I'll be in the minority---but I hate AWD and would never buy one.

1. added weight
2. added complexity = higher maitence costs
3. worse fuel economy (more parasetic loss/weight)

4. Only way to get it to go fast is drop the clutch at 5K rpm! How long will that last? Not long! From a roll a FWD would beat it.

Thanks for all the info, very interesting. Hard to believe the Cobalt will be getting restyled for 2008, the car practically just came out. I suppose its better to keep the styling fresh though, instead of making the same mistake they did with the Cavalier.

As for an AWD Evo/STi competitor, sounds promising, but it would be a pretty big gamble for GM to take. It would have to be priced over 30K to compete, and it would need at least 280HP. AWD would be beneficial in getting all that power to the ground, if it was FWD you wouldn't be able to get traction until you were well into 3rd gear

A lot of people say that, but you have to realize that it wouldn't make sense from any perspective.

First of all the Cobalt is a sport compact - meaning relatively small dimensions, Front wheels drive, transaxle drivetrain setup. This setup makes it cheaper to manufacture, allows more interior room, less drivetrain loss, and keeps the weight nice and light. People also tend to like FWD for the winter, since they can be easier to control in slippery conditions than RWD would be, and there is more weight over the front wheels. So basically FWD suits this type of car best, but thats not to say its perfect.

Being that many AWD vehicles are FWD based, it wouldn't be all that difficult to add an AWD system to the rumored Evo-fighting Cobalt. It would just add extra weight and complexity to the car, as well as increase tire wear, decrease fuel mileage, and increase parasetic losses.

If you want RWD, you would need to get either a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. The good news is that the Solstice actually has a lower starting price than the SS S/C, and you get the benefits of a convertible top and RWD. However, if you want performande equal to that of the SS S/C, you would need to get the GXP version, which will have 240HP and a 6-speed, but will also be more expensive.

I know, I'm late, Once again.

But I never said it was. I was talking about the V8 Rear wheel drive Gremlin, Not the Eagle. I know the Gremlin never had AWD. If you look at the post I quoted, You can see that he said he wanted an RWD Cobalt, So I was just making a reference.

Thanks!
