Cobalt or SRT4?
Cobalt or SRT4?
I am looking to get 1 of the 2 after winter. I just want to keep it as a stock DD. I am selling my camaro to get one b/c I just can't afford a weekend toy now that I am getting married soon. Just wanted to hear some highs and lows of each car. I know I am on a cobalt site and can guess there isn't alot of SRT love here lol, but lets be unbiasit if we can. To be honest I think the SRT is in the lead for me right now but I keep going back and forth. I have been looking and its tough to find a stock un-beat-to-crap srt tho so I really don't know right now. Thanks in advance for your input guys.
honestly a srt4 might be better stock vs stock if your planning on having a family soon. 4 doors is better then two for a family. if ur not planning for a family then cobalt all the way. looks a lot nicer then a srt4
Whats the fastest cobalt out there? I got afew customers with 10 sec SRT-4 but they got an arm and leg in them. I know wht the cobalts for 50 bucks you can drop a pulley and make a pretty good jump in hp. Personal i feel the srt being turboed just makes it easier to make power as you can upgrade comressors easily and cheaply.

o.p.- if you're keeping it stock, i would go with the cobalt. the interior is way nicer, and you get a pretty good sound system. plus you get a much better looking car.
the srt has 1 advantage though.. its more family friendly because of its 4 doors. you might have to take that into consideration, as you stated you are starting a new family.
Cobalt looks nicer, SRT4 has four doors
I really love the way the cobalt looks, but it doesn't have a lot of room. The backseat is nearly worthless. The trunk is big, but has a very small opening. I think ultimately it comes down to such consideration. What looks best to you. What meets you needs more four door or two.
Cobalt should come turbo too soon, SRT4 has more support.
The SRT4 can go a long way with just mopar or supporting vendors easily. The cobalt is more enjoyable to me because you have to experiment more and learn. It also leads to more friendships as you talk and work with other members learning. Also, the 2.2 has a lot of support and maybe the most potential. I have seen a few 1000+ hp 2.2 cobalts.
Cobalt handles better, SRT4 goes faster
I have never run into a driving condition for which the cobalt wasn't suited. I feel complete control over the road always sharp bends, higher speeds, lower traction. The downside is that I have put in 5k and still haven't broken 300whp. Still, you get way more low end torque way earlier even though the numbers are low. There are many times on the road that I give it some gas to pass a large turbo and if we are lower in rpm I jump away from them.
MISC.
This engine is one of the easiest to work on I have owned. Everything is easy to reach and enjoyable to play with. I have yet to find a job that really frustated me. Don't know what the STR4 is like.
I have never beaten an SRT4 in a real race, but I have never had another car period keep up on bends or real conditions.
The cobalt gets me more attention from kids and a little less from people my own age (27+). I'm not sure the neon would be much different though, but no experience there.
I'm sure there is more I am not thinking of, but that is a start.

The 6spd alone makes the SRT4 a better buy. When is GM going to step up and put a 6spd in the cobalt.
Thanks for all the replies guys. And just to clear things up I do mean the neon and not the caliber, thats just not in my price range. It's funny I seen a thread like this on srt.net and of course all those guys said srew the cobalt go w/ the srt4. And over heres it the same thing but the other way around. I do like that the srt4 is 4 doors but the cobalt does seem alittle more DD freindly. Man I don't freakin know. GGRRRR.

mainly, the cobalt is almost a full second slower in the 1/4. if you're ok with that, i say get the cobalt. its fun to drive, and outhandles the srt4 all day long. plus, if you look on the srt forum.. how many of them have died from hitting something in those unsafe deathtraps? ALOT!
the choice is yours
FOCKER OUT!
have you considered an RSX-S? i'd say its a better choice than both. better looking than both.. but slower than both as well.. but its "refined"
idk if youre one of those buy american dudes.. but its food for thought.

ah, you will not keep it stock long. I tried myself. My last car i bought had a v6, I have been a camarro, mustang, old car v8 kinda guy for years. I told myself i would not touch it So i bought it for a daily driver. Didn't last stock but only afew weeks
Cobalts look better, and have less of a "ricer" stigmata, in my opinion. For just a DD I'd go with the balt every time, but I will admit SRT-4's are faster, but speed isn't everything.
