The Daily Driver (AKA deer slayer)

Got bored this evening and since it was wet out and I didn't want to bring the cobalt out into the salt/wetness I decided to practice a bit on my daily driver. The lighting was a bit awkward...I just cannot get everything down pat...need a polarizer eventually. Anyways on to the pictures.

They look pretty good, but overcast light is the easiest light to shoot in... They are a little blue for being 5pm, what white balance did you use?

awesome for a beater, but today I saw a mercury sable that was painted blue with white bumpers and sideskirts and decals that said "All Eyez on Me" all over it ... same exact body as yours

Wow no way I'd do that to my sable lol...I love it as a beater car though, its comfortable gets me where I need to go. has 125,000 on it and runs pretty good for all the hell I put it through.

Nope, I use manual controls, put it to RAW on file type, adjusted accordingly, and I never use flash I think it sometimes takes away from the picture, just me though.

white balance is exactly what it sounds like. you have to tell the camera what is white so it reads it as white. the human eye automaticall detects changes in light frequency and adjusts so quickly that you always see in the correct color. a camera doesn't have that ability, even set on auto. when you start getting into it, you start to see things differently. you can tell when a picture is blue, red, green, yellow, etc. when most people wouldn't realize it unless you pointed it out. here's what i THINK It would look like corrected.

the slight color differences are hard to see at first, it's something that comes with practice and training your eye on what to look for. after a while, you look at the number and know if it's right or not before you take your picture. as far as specifics, i do video, and the numbers are a little bit different than on a still camera. so i can't help with that. the concept is the same though.

here's a quick comparison, this is more easy to see since they're next to each other. but, if the whole picture was one color you wouldn't be able to see it so easily. red, blue, green, normal:
