Question air intakes? exhausts?

has anybody heard of any possible air intakes, headers or cat back systems?

AEM is working on an Intake system, as for headers and exhaust I don't think there is any Known ones coming out soon, in time definetly. The cobalt will have a huge aftermarket I expect, just got to get the car out first

I believe the Motor Trend article stated that it comes with a free-flowing 2.5" exhaust.
So I wouldn't think you'll need to worry about that unless you're planning some major mods...

Free flowing my foot.. Its free flowing as itll get factory, but there is always room for improvement. When you guys get the cobalts you will see, the muffler is a turd!!

I figured a header upgrade and 3" exhaust would be the first mod on most people's lists... Well, that is if most people are thinking of going beyond the basic bolt-ons. Sounds like lots of you are

Magnaflow has some nice race series muffers that would do nicely back there

it would be intresting to see how AEM design thier intake for the ss s/c, the indent for clearence of the hydrolic struts is just evidence that GM had retard design team that didnt consider all factors when making the design.

Agreed. That dent pissed me off when I saw it. I hope that installing an aftermarket intake won't require a relocation kit for the strut... That would suck ass

SC Dyne Performance (owned by SCDyne who posts here) has developed a header for the ION Redline that has a guaranteed wheel horse power increase of 10% ie. 20 whp, and from what I understand they have seen increases as much as 15%.

As soon as the Cobalt arrives I'm sure SC Dyne will fit the header to the Cobalt and offer it for sale. With gains like that, when I finally graduate and get a new car I will definitely get in line for one of those.

I've also heard that K&N are developing an intake for the Redline, that supposedly dyno'd a 13hp increase.

Oh, and I'd imagine this thread should probably be under the 2.0L Performance forum.

This 2.2 is a bit different than that of the current cavaliers, you may be able to MODIFY the parts from Cavis into the car, but that's all. I don't think you can direct port performance parts from the current 2.2 to this gen.
Oh and welcome to

We are working on as many parts as possible for the Cobalt. We will be making both the 2 and 4 door body kits, ram air hood (That is selling right now!) suspension, headers, single and dual cat back, brake kits, carbon fiber trim and........... drum roll please, our own, yes our own designed......
Turbo for the Base and LS models!! Wanna kick the !@#$ out of the SS for less$$ ??

Stay tuned,

RC

well..you could say it effects the appearance if you were to say, go with dual exhaust like one guy on redlineforums which looks very nice. And you might also say that the intake would effect appearance if you used the ram air hood. So I guess maybe this topic could stay in this forum....maybe.
I know I'd want to go 3" all the way to the cat and run it out to a dual exhaust surrounded by that sweet rear bumper by razzi.

There is always room for improvment, but it doesn't always justify the price. Borla on a GTO only gives 12HP (at the engine) and cost 800 some odd dollars just for catback.

Well zinner Ian Lacey from JBO has this quote (i guess its by him) in his sig.
"Performance cars do not win car shows and show cars do not win races.
It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win."

So some people really only get an intake and exhast just purly for the looks they don't car about performance. They don't care if it gives them 100hp or 1hp. All they want is to look good. Jmfssn2r just might want that OR he might have posted this in the wrong place. Who knows (just like like posting that smilie no real reason)
