View Full Version : B&M shift problem!!!
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:14 PM so i was driving about 30 minutes ago and im making a pull from 2nd gear and just testing my new ingalls. well, when i shift into third i feel a weird pop feeling. now my shifter wont shift into any gears and it stays in that one gear. the stick just feels like a limp dick. it only moves up and down. it moves really far up and really far down.... am i screwed? help please
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:15 PM i would say that your cable came loose from the shifter...check that...
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:16 PM even though i cant move side to side? is that a cable problem?
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:22 PM ...the cable could be in the way of the other one moving...
it sounds like a cable problem just because you can move it so far forward and back...idk what else would do that...hopefully its not in the box where the cables connect to the tranny...that would suuuuuck
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:24 PM damn, dont say that. i wonder how much that would cost to fix that. but why cant i move it left to right??
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:26 PM ..i dont even wanna think about how much it would cost to fix it at the tranny..lol! ...the plastic socket could have come un-done from the ball of the shifter, that would cause a loud pop...and possibly get in the way of you moving it left to right....or the same thing could have happened at the other end of the plastic piece and it could be lodged somewhere in the depths of that god forsaken shifter hole...lol...can you move it left or right at all?? even a little??
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:28 PM nope. and when i try to the there is a plastic thing on the side that wants to move up and down when i do. i wish i was back at home so i could post a vid
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:30 PM ...well...what i would do, if you have the tools...its rip it apart, its not that hard, and see if anything is out of the ordinary...if not then you have more serious problems...
..by the way..nice rims..what are they?? i think they would look nice on my black ss/sc
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:31 PM luffs. the only ones made and made for this car. trying to buy them?
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:32 PM ..lol...ive just been in the market for some rims...im getting tired of the stock look!
..and i was thinking...if its still in gear theres a good chance that its causing the movement from left to right to be blocked...so i would check that cable for sure!
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:37 PM yea, makes sense. that make me feel better. so i just need torx wrench to take off the plastic covering to get to the cables? i guess i will have to look up a how to or something
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:38 PM yeah...there is a decent how-to on this....all you should need is the torx, you should not have to remove the ball or the socket to check the cables....it only takes about 10 minutes.
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 09:42 PM wtf, i wonder if anyone else has a problem with there cables coming off and fast shifts. maybe im too strong for it?...
Drakonen2000 12-15-2007, 09:44 PM ..did you take the plastic piece off the cable, or did you do it at the ball joint??
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:04 PM i havent taken a look yet. what is the difference in seriousness?
DTM2188 12-15-2007, 10:06 PM Sounds like just the cable came loose or is not attached properly to the shifter assembly.
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:08 PM after a hard shift... how does it come loose?
DTM2188 12-15-2007, 10:10 PM It may never have been attatched properly from the start. How long ago did you put the B&M in?
06CobaltssOrange 12-15-2007, 10:11 PM had the same problem my car shifter would go up and down lets just say thank god they warrantied it for me because it would of been a huge money issue they towed the car where it sat good luck
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:28 PM It may never have been attatched properly from the start. How long ago did you put the B&M in?
it hasnt been driven but 3500 miles

why did they have to tow it? how did that happen to you?
DTM2188 12-15-2007, 10:32 PM it hasnt been driven but 3500 miles
Hmmmm... I dunno then man. After I installed my Hurst shifter, I went to test drive it around the block and when shifting into 3rd gear, I had the same thing happen that you explained. It turned out that the cable came loose. But this was just a matter of a couple miles.
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:35 PM did you shift hard like i did?
DTM2188 12-15-2007, 10:36 PM No it was just your typical shift, not launching or anything, just making sure that everything was installed properly.
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:38 PM well, dammit. i hope im not screwed. i will have to see tomorrow then i guess
DTM2188 12-15-2007, 10:39 PM Best of luck with everything man.
ColeJJones 12-15-2007, 10:40 PM Best of luck with everything man.

ColeJJones 12-16-2007, 09:13 PM i just fixed it!! not a sweat. i took some pictures so im going to make a how to right now and how to reinstall it in case someone else make a really hard shift like i did
DTM2188 12-16-2007, 09:14 PM So what was the problem then? Cables loose?
ColeJJones 12-16-2007, 10:52 PM the shift vertical shift cable ball link came off the the end of the shifter and the shift cable!
