...the cable could be in the way of the other one moving...
it sounds like a cable problem just because you can move it so far forward and back...idk what else would do that...hopefully its not in the box where the cables connect to the tranny...that would suuuuuck

..i dont even wanna think about how much it would cost to fix it at the tranny..lol! ...the plastic socket could have come un-done from the ball of the shifter, that would cause a loud pop...and possibly get in the way of you moving it left to right....or the same thing could have happened at the other end of the plastic piece and it could be lodged somewhere in the depths of that god forsaken shifter hole...lol...can you move it left or right at all?? even a little??

...well...what i would do, if you have the tools...its rip it apart, its not that hard, and see if anything is out of the ordinary...if not then you have more serious problems...
..by the way..nice rims..what are they?? i think they would look nice on my black ss/sc

..lol...ive just been in the market for some rims...im getting tired of the stock look!
..and i was thinking...if its still in gear theres a good chance that its causing the movement from left to right to be blocked...so i would check that cable for sure!

yeah...there is a decent how-to on this....all you should need is the torx, you should not have to remove the ball or the socket to check the cables....it only takes about 10 minutes.

Hmmmm... I dunno then man. After I installed my Hurst shifter, I went to test drive it around the block and when shifting into 3rd gear, I had the same thing happen that you explained. It turned out that the cable came loose. But this was just a matter of a couple miles.
