I'm lookign at getting a cobalt soon. Just wondering if I can fit 14inch rims and tires on these cars? I think I saw the bolt pattern is 4x100. I'm looking at getting a non-ss coupe. Thanks

You might have big problems fitting the brakes in a wheel that small..

I want 14's for my winter tires. I already have a set of good winter rubber and was hoping I could use a 14 inch wheel on it. I ask because I'm concerned about them fitting over the brakes. Does anybody know for sure??

can someone explain why a 14 inch rim with tire would be better in snow compared to an 18 inch rim with tire. If they both have Perelli Nero MS's on them, how does rim size make a difference?

I'm not worried if 14's will be better in snow or not. It's the fact I have a set from my sunfire that I'd like to put on. I realize the rims won't work, but I am hoping I can still keep the tires as there is lots of tread left on them. Does anybody know if 14's will fit over the brakes?

I think tires that small would look ridiculous on a Cobalt. Saving a few hundred dollars isn't worth constantly looking lame.

That was my point, it would look so stupid, unless you deal with snow all winter long, its not worth it. I live in Delaware and thats why I am keeping my stock rims, just buying some perelli Nero MS's all season tires for winter, and keep my stock tires for summer.

EXACTLY!! I'm up in Ottawa Canada and we get quite a bit of snow so I need winter tires on, and I'd prefer to use what I have since they are still in good shape.



All I want to know is if 14 inch rims will fit over the brakes. I do not care about looks or anything, just whether or not the rims would fit over the brakes. This would be on an LS coupe with the 2.2 ECOTEC.

The Tire is not as wide and has a tendency to not float like a waterski...

Check out WRC Winter tires. They are not PAHT...

I would have thought the wider the tire, the more abilty for grabbing the ground there would be? I would think the skinier the tire the less traction would be recieved because of less coverage on teh ground?

ummm i wouldnt do it....although im sure you could swipe them from a gokart or radio flyer.

according to www.tirerack.com 14 inch rimms will not fit on the cobalts. My guess would be that the calipers and rotors are too big. Also by downgrading to 14s you would have to get a really tall side wall on your tires or face speedometer errors. I think it would be best just to get some nice allweathers on your cobalt, I live in Colorado and go skiing all the time and i have never gotten stuck or in an accident even going over mountian passes i have been fine with my allweather tires....and if worse comes to worse get some chains!

So, from my searching the answere is no...14s will not work

On dry pavement yes, Wider is more traction, but like I said... The wide tire tends to float and then you loose contact. It's strange..

cause there is more area to distribute wieght so the tires floats on snow and really sucks. thats how my truck is the guy who had it befor put wide tires on it and it really sucks in the snow even though the tires on it have huge tread on them.

I kinda have the same question. What's the OD on the tire and rim combo for an 06 ss sc so I can match with winter tires. I'm gettin' steelies 'cause I ain't gonna wreck my stock rims. Ontario uses salt. Alberta uses gravel!! Nothing like sandblastin' your rims and pingin' rocks off the windshield. Rim size doesn't matter for me as long as someone has the bolt pattern dimensions for me. Thanks

16" is as small as you can go on the SS/SC. For the closest to stock diameter, go with 205/60-R16s, they're like 2/10" off from stock diameter.

Eh I don't think 14 inch tires are gonna do better in the snow than say a 15 or 16 inch tire. It's all about the width and thread anyhow.

Hey man you know that the MS's KILL the Stock Pzeros even in DRY (9.0 to 8.8) WET (8.7 to 7.6) and cornering (8.7 to 8.6)

Well ok I wouldn't say kill... but Ill use the MS's year round and on top of that they have MUCH better wear (8.3 to 5.0)

To the OP: I am 99% sure that 14" won't fit.
