IAT2 numbers, whats normal??

Ok, bit of a question here. I just started logging the car with HPT today, and my IAT2 stays around 120 when driving normally, but on a nice 40-120 pull, it climbs straight up, peaking at over 220 degrees. It does come back down pretty quick, my pump is working, I also have a dual pass and the C/A H/E. Any ideas what it could be? Blower worn out inside maybe?

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Joe

I've had a 2.8" pulley forever and had 180+ temps with the stock cooling setup. Went with GM's dual pass and never saw above 150 under any conditions.

Your results may vary?

So if I'm seeing that much on a 2.8, there must be something wrong. I do have 50K miles on a small pulley on the blower, maybe i should pull it and check the rotors.

I really don't know. I've seen insane numbers on different pulleys and cobra heat exchangers and it was mainly due to a lot of unbled air in the system.

on a 2.9 with a cobra h/e i have never seen over 150 even in the summer. seems high to me esp with dual pass h/e and endplate. i would worry about it unless it misfires or stutters at all

Thats really high and it was cool outside tonight too, you have a problem swap to a regular pulley and do another log only 4 bolts wouldnt hurt to try.

I'd change to pulley but I don't have a larger ring to fit this hub. It doesn't misfire, but its knocking enough already, I'm going to have to retard timing and see what happens. The car is trying to run about 21 degrees, stock stage 1 maps, but the KR is at 8 degrees at points, so its making the car hold 13-14 degrees of timing. Car feels like it always had, so i'm sure its nothing new, I've just never been able to log the car before. I'll try it tonight in our 30 degree weather, and see what happens.

holy **** thats hot.

even in summer after a 1/4 mile pass with my 2.8 i was only seeing 140 with stock cooling. and cruises at 90-100

you checked your pump...fluids etc im assuming?

IMO 160+ iat2s for extended periods = piston popping conditions.

you have GOT to keep those IATs below 140 at all times to really get the power out of your car.
once you go past that, the timing drop is significant.

I usually park my car at the track if i get above 140, and let it cool.
its pointless running it past that, your power drops like a cheap hooker.

I don't see how it can have air in it, I have the full option B setup and it looks to be flowing well. Again tonight, under 50 degrees outside, and I would start a pull at 110 IAT2 and by the end of 3rd gear it was close to 180. It just ramps straight up. It cools back down pretty quickly, but it shouldn't get that high in the first place. Maybe the pump flow is down? I have had it not work at times, possibly the motor is going bad, but it looks like its flowing strong when I check it right after these hard runs, before shutting the car off. Car didn't run like this two weeks ago though, it felt really good. Even last wednesday, it wasn't doing this. I'm seeing nearly 20 psi when its overheating, it was holding 17 or so last week.

yea the psi upping would lead me to believe its a cat, but you def need to look into those temps, you should be staying cooler longer since its really cold at night....

why park it i throw on a bag of ice ontop of the supercharger. i was at 80 degrees for my iat2s when i get to the start line when it was about that warm out. the only cooling mod i had back then was that my fans and coolent pump turned on the second my ignition turned on.
