2.2L Tuning: Powertrain Control Solutions
2.2L Tuning: Powertrain Control Solutions
Browsing some other car forums I'm a member on, I stumbled upon a company that recently released a few engine management products I thought might appeal to some of the 2.2L L61 guys.
First is an air/fuel controller: XFC - Xtended Fuel Controller
Pros: Handles digital (frequency based) GM MAFs and the software is vastly superior to the AEM FIC software in control, maps, and setup options.
Cons: I can't find a voltage clamping or even MAP output option. Also no ignition control.
This is definetly a solid unit but until they offer the ignition control module with it (its supposedly going to be released soon) I don't think its worth the money over the AEM FIC.
The second interesting piece I found over there was this: Programmable Electronic Automatic Transmission Controller
Pros: Can control just about any transmission/transaxle that uses shift solenoids. Offers complete control as a standalone unit or piggyback from what I can tell. Also interfaces with their other products through a CAN bus for info such as engine RPM, ECT, and so on.
Cons: Although they offer a wiring diagram here there aren't any base configs for the 4t40/45 available so you would be working from scratch. They do state that if you contact them and provide them with shift logic information they can write a base setup for you to start with.
FYI: Electronic tranmission tuning is not for the average tuner so unless you're pretty handy with the workings of GM electronic trannys this isn't something someone new to engine/powertrain management should be playing with.
These are pretty powerful tools that I'm sure will help a few serious 2.2L owners out there.

very nice sir. very nice indeed. maybe halfcent will finally turbo his car using the mentioned tranny tuner. course he'll be using the stock garrett tune of 200hp until he can make custom tunes with his larger turbo
It would only take one person to forward PCS the shift logic of the 4t45e tranny for them to write a starter config. If I get some time off this weekend I'll dig through shop manuals to see if I can find the info they need.
Pricey. But hey look, a real solution! I guess I'm quickly running out of excuses.
Actually I have to go the shop today because the wind caught my door last week and tweaked the hinges. Now its rubbin'
