Unhappy this cant be good

i was driving my car tonight and i was accelerating from an intersection pretty quickly and i guess i missed a shift because all of a sudden the engine reved to like 5k-6k and there was a very noticeable burning smell afterwards. there was a little the next time i accelerated (gently) from a stop. still seemed to drive ok the rest of the way home when was shifting but when i got home i got down by the front of the car and could still smell a hint of it.
i think i probably messed up the clutch or gears but...

what did i do?

Missed a shift and when you let the clutch back out you heard it rev up real quick so you decided to not let the clutch fully engage and then probably rode it out. Probably glazed the clutch. A couple days of normal driving and it should be at full driving potential.

btw, since were on the subject... on average, about how often do clutches need to be replaced and how much does it cost?

mines been fine in general, theres a thread somewhere where a guy was saying what i just told u and his clutch basically fixed itself, just shift at 3+ rpms. and the clutch all depends how hard you drive it, how good of a driver you are, amount of mods... so on... a clutch will prolly be around $1200 installed

yikes, that's a lot. ive only put about 12k miles my car since i got it and i dont think the clutch was on it to long before that. im usually really good with the stick, idk tonight was a pretty sh*tty night for me so my mind wasnt really working and i guess i just spazed or something. hopefully everything on it will be okay. ill just be nice to the car for a while and maybe itll forgive me...

Thats defiantly a great video. Must people aren't smart enough to hear the clutch slip though.

you can not only hear the clutch slip, but you can feel it...and I don't think it has so much of a burning smell, to me it smells like a perm

Don't worry about it man. My ss/sc is my first manual too and I've had a hiccup every now and then too. It's just part of the process
