electric motor has WAY more torque than a gas motor.. the gas motor shuts off completey at a stop and untill 5 mph... and if you have an SS/SC you will take him.

from a dig, no the prius will not take the ss/sc in a quarter. but from a 60 to 100 run the prius will take you. for this main reason.

the eletric motor will rev higher and higher and will not shift, as for a gas motor you have to shift, loosing rpm's

i have seen this happen to a couple people. and im a toyota mechanic... haha so i see and know these cars very well

an old Camry Hybrid?

Straight from Edmunds.com ->> "With a 0-60 time of 8.6 seconds, you won't win any drag races in the Camry Hybrid, but no one will make fun of you as you try to merge onto the freeway ..."

Put some money on it... go smoke his ass.

lol. electrics have all their torque available to moment you hit the gas do the not? (or is it computer limited?)

it's not computer limited... hybrids to have a shitload of torque off the line... but that electric motor can only run *****-out for a few seconds... it's just meant to get the car up to 15MPH or so... after that the typically anemic gas engine kicks in.

I don't see any Hybrids smoking the tires when they punch it off the line.

lol my cousin has a prius, they're def. not a car you wanna talk **** in, but it does pick up and go pretty decent ( for traffic driving..not for racing) they're also eerily quiet, which I don't like.

from a 60-100??? the prius will win? you have to be joking. i don't care about the principals behind it, but i bet a ss/sc can go 0-100 in the time a prius can go 60-100.

yea, they have torque off the line, and that's about it. i remember a while back reading a post on the prius boards about how they had superior cars to everything on the market because they could SMOKE the **** out of an enzo in a race from 0-5mph. yes, that's right, 0-5mph. they would actually say "Well, i can smoke an enzo till 5mph"

electric motors have instantaneous torque. They are completely different from gas motors. he may be right with the torque that low rpm, but you will beat him in a race

takes about 7 seconds to get from 60-80 in a prius. and still has another 20 miles an hour to go.

+1...

I remember an article in Popular Science a few years back when Hybrids were starting to get big. They tested a Civic LX vs a Civic Hybrid... and determined that to save enough gas to offset the extra $5000 that the car cost up front you would have to drive 100,000 miles.

Give it 5 years... when gas is $7/gal... it'll be worth it then.

not so much the money you can save....
im reffering to the fact that this "supposedly" green friendly car,
actually leaves a larger carbon imprint on the planet, than an equivalent gasoline vehicle.

I suppose you are also considering the battery pack that will have to be disposed of when the car dies too.

The thing that really scares me is the "plug in" cars that are coming... I pay enough for power as it is... can you imagine the demands on our energy grid when 10,000,000 people come home from work at 6:00 every day and plug in their car?

And noone has given any thought to the fact that 80% of our power is produced by coal or natural gas burning power plants...

So much for cutting back on greenhouse emissions.

read this. tell me if it makes you chuckle

I averaged 32 miles per gallon this week thanks to my new Camry Hybrid. I am now one of the lucky ones who can gawk slightly less at the price of gas these days. And I love it. Not only am I reducing my carbon footprint, but I am doing it in style.
tell me whats wrong with this statement.

the camry hybrid is pretty quick... i dunno if it'd take down an SC, but it would give a lot of cars a shock
