Paint...shitie quality
Well up until just after this snow fall here in Calgary I did not have one rock chip on my hood. Now that they have sanded the roads I have gotten at least 7 new chips in the last week. The paint on these cars suck ass. I have never had a car that chipped this easy. How is every ones paint holding out. This should be a warranty claimable thing.

mine isn't bad a couple here and there. but my brothers (white SS 2.4) well he had his repainted and it literally looks like someone spackled black paint on his hood due to all the rock chips.
I know. I just washed it and a week ago there were none cause I had fixed all the ones from last year and I see 7 new ones. See here if I try to have them warranty this they will just say it is due to rocks being kicked up from the road and it is a fact of life here.

I hate to break it too you, but the paint put on the Cobalt is the same paint used on a Corvette, Yukon, Corvette, Escalade, CTS etc. General motors uses the same paint on every car. Rock chips are just that, rock chips. When you drive in sandy consitions like that you are going to be more prone to them. I manage a collision center and deal with this problem all the time. Rock chips in regards to factory paint have nothing to do with the quality of the paint, but the driving conditiond the vehicle is in. More importantly, carrs that are lower to the ground are more inclined to receive rock chips than a truck or SUV. You could drive a Corvette Z06 right off the lot in the same conditions and it would have the same problem. It would make no difference if it were a Mercedes CL 55 AMG. There is no paint in the world that is rock chip proof.
Furthermore, no auto manufactureres are using water based paints except plants that are based out of California. California recquires the usage of water based paints. Every other state incorpartes the usage of a base coat clear coat formula which is basically an acrylic enamel.
back on topic i never had an issue with the paint on my IRL.. and that's even letting anyone who beat it kick the door's/bumper's or what ever body panel they wanted.. after i kicked her for loosing.. i honestly really only kicked her for ****'s and giggles.. cause my IRL didnt loose much.
Well I'm sorry but I am not some young pup bitchin here. This is the first car I have ever owned that has been chipped this bad in only one week. yes it is an every day occurance but one chip in a while is exceptable not 7 or 8 in less than a week. I have owned many cars that were dark/light paint and have not gotten as many chips on all those vehicles as i have with this car. so i don't care what you have to say or how you defend it. the fact is the paint is **** or to thin.
My Victory Red SS has a few in the hood. I'm sure the numerous 120+ mile one way road trips I took this summer/winter as well as the trip to the eastern tip of long island and back didn't help either.
My car was driven a lot on the highway so for the amount of mileage it's seen (9400 on the car, at least 75% of that is highway miles) it isn't too bad.
