Spark Plugs Fouled Out.

I moved my car from my driveway to the road and what happens! It doesn't start the next day. Turns out my spark plugs are fouled out and none of the cylinders were firing. Bring it in to the dealer, they clean the plugs and park it. I then turned in the rental and took it home only to find my vehicle violently jerking back and forth because there were only 1-2 of the 4 cylinders firing. Bring it back to the dealer and they replace the plugs and all is well. Weird situation, although I did get a free detail out of it!.

I would be kinda concerned about why the plugs were fouled. Replacing the plug isn't going to fix the problem. Did the dealer elaborate on why they were fouled.

Yes, a good mechanic can replace the failed part, a good technician finds out why they failed!

While mine's having the tranny replaced they're supposed to be checking for PCM reflashes for a super-rich condition. I wipe off my tail pipe, drive to the grocery store, get out and the tailpipe has a millimeter of soot in it already.

Did they tell you what kind of fouling it was, have you seen the plugs yourself? heavy soot- looks like black powder, with hints of moisture- running rich; glistening black- oil leak- not likely to happen in all four at once though; chips/cracks on insulator- detonation; glazed brown- running hot and lean; etc, etc.

Definately need to find the root cause: what you've seen is only a symptom, not the disease.

appreciate the input from you. I manage the finance department at the dealership i get service at and I leased the ss/sc. When I bring it back after it happens again maybe they will look into it more.
Anyone else have this problem and know what the root cause is?

checked out my spark plugs today on my ss/sc. 9,000 miles and they were very heavy with black soot. does this mean they are fouled? i cleaned them up with a brush and re-installed them. Nobody in town here sells the spark plugs i want. autolite 3922.

I had a problem with my car not starting months ago. The plugs would foul and I had to have it towed in twice with the same problem.

Turned out the fuel quality I was using was no good (even though I paid for 93 octane). If you go to the same gas station, try switching and see if that helps.
