new wheels/new lugnuts

Im debating purchasing some new wheels, and they recommend to buy their lugnuts which are like $45, They say: Purchasing this kit is strongly recommended as the original equipment lug hardware will not work on aftermarket wheels. Is this true?? or can i use the stock OEM lugnuts, i dont see why i cant keep my stock ones?

Thanks

When I got my new rims (OEM from an 06 Cobalt) I got non-OEM lugnuts and they worked fine with them, and they didn't cost no where near $45.

They just wantin' you to spend the extra money, mate.

do you need a special tool (tire iron) to put on those special smaller lugs? I am looking at aftermarket rims and the salesperson said OEM lugs may not work.

Some aftermarket wheel types require "tuner" style lug nuts.....they're much narrower than stock lugnuts. The tuner lugnut kits come with a spline drive key (or similar) that you will need to take them on and off.......they are usually designed with a double head size: 3/4", and 13/16" and will work with the stock lug wrench.
