Lightweight Lugnuts.. Legit Or Ripoff..??
Hey guys,
Just as a quick question.. Are the "lightweight lugnuts" a legit item vs standard, stock lugnuts or are they a ripoff? I know that if you go onto the companies sites they list advantages and such about their light lugnuts compared to standards, but who knows if that's legit info.. Anyone vouch for these either way?
Thanks!

they weigh like nothing to begun with. and i wouldnt feel comefortable driving around on them cuz being lightweight prob also meansthere not as strong as stock ones and could possibly snap. bemore concerned about the weight of your wheels, not the lugs

Yes, size also. My IRL wheels are the lightest ones available OEM on our cars.. I noticed a big difference in weight vs the stock SS 17's as well as especially the SS 18's..
1lb of rotating mass which includes lugnuts is 11lbs off of a vehicle so say your stock rims are 23lbs and you went with 21lb wheels you lost 88lbs off your cars weight while moving 22lbs each wheel
lightweight lugs arent a ripoff. shedding 1lbs or 40 grams is lightening the car up. In road racing grams make the difference.

Ima have to agree, There's a big difference when shedding weight on unsprung weight, ive felt the Skunk2 lightweight aluminum compared to the stock OEM steel lug and its actually a surprising difference, the weight savings arent as minimal as you'd think
they are a ripp off in this sense because they are preying on the ricers. light weight lugnuts are the last thing somebody should be looking into if they're trying to put there car on a diet. People get them because of the look and they can say they're light weight and cost "x" amount of dollars.
well many of the light weight ones are colored (anodized) so I suppose if you didnt use them for racing or something, some may call that rice. But the fact of the matter is, they weigh less than stock ones so if you want the lighten your car that is one of the ways to do so. Its just not the biggest weight loss mod.
If you get a quality light weight lug nut theres no compromise for strength.

On my one other forum, a guy is trying to sell me a set of lightly used Blox ones.. Blox is a high-quality brand in the world of Honda and such.. I'd assume they'd be fine for my usage..
people that say its a ripoff are idiots. shaving rotational mass is one of the most important things that a lot of people never look at.
are getting lightweight lugs more important then light rims, flywheel, harmonic pulley, probably not, but if you have a good deal great.
you should weigh the stock lugs vs lightweight and let people know what you came up with

See, that's what I assumed.
Look, my car is in no way a race-car. I have a full stereo, AC, all stock components, always run the back seat, and the spare wheel is even stowed in the trunk. It's not like it's anything crazy. I just like to do little things that I can, and since the deal is presented, I figured it couldn't hurt. I already have IRL wheels, which are lighter than anything else OEM on these cars. So I figure I'm good to go after this..
Pulled from one of the lug-nut ads..
compact & lightweight at 36g each versus 60g for typical OE style lug nuts
Seems pretty significant in the overall scheme of things..
Let's see:
OEM - 60g each lug-nut, 300g for each wheel, 1,200g for all 20
Light-Weight - 36g each lug-nut, 180g for each wheel, 720g for all 20
That's almost half the weight.. And apparently rolling weight light wheels, etc is significant..
36 grams = .07 pounds, 180 grams = .39 pounds, 720 grams = 1.54 pounds
60 grams = .13 pounds, 300 grams = .66 pounds, 1,200 grams = 2.64 pounds
So, you're saving about a pound in outright weight, but a pound in standard weight is how much in rolling weight..??
Also, anyone know how much the OEM s/c 18's or OEM n/a 17's are? My IRL's are 21 each.. lol Seem lighter than most aftermarkets for our cars..
