View Full Version : Just ordered my Headers!!
jdub777 01-28-2008, 09:39 PM I order my CA stainless steel headers a couple days ago and im so excited for them. But heres the question...as far as downpipes are concerned, which do i get? I was thinking about getting the DownPIPE without cat converter (2.5") from cobalt-addiction.com but i really dont know which is best. Also does anyone have a quote for what an average installation costs for headers and downpipes are? Someone told me $200 but that seems high...maybe its just me.
D4u2s0t 01-28-2008, 09:41 PM install yourself, it's really not hard at all. if you don't feel confidant, have a local member show you how to do it. it's really as easy as unscrewing a few bolts, and then tightening a few bolts.
if you were local, i would help and wouldn't charge anything. maybe you could bring lunch or some beer
^^^What D4 said. I regret not doing my header by myself. I let a shop do it because I wanted it on before a dyno day that was fast approaching. In hindsight, I probably could have done just as good a job if not better, since I had a leak after they installed it. :p:

wow, thats exactly why i want mine installed because of a dyno day on the 24th of Feb. I still havnt even ordered the downpipes yet because i dont know which to get...and im waiting for my pay check:twothumbs
D4u2s0t 01-28-2008, 09:49 PM having never installed one, or taken one off, i did it myself with the "help" of my little brother. if he wasn't "helping" probably would have taken about 2-3 hours. didn't run into any problems. if there's a leak, just tighten up the bolts, it's really that simple. all you need is a jack, and basic handtools.

If I were you, I would get the CA header on right away and then order the DP. This way, if you don't get the DP in time for the dyno day, you will at least have the header on. And if you get the DP in very close to the dyno day, it will be a much easier install than doing a header and DP.

I found out that my header was warped where it bolts to the head. :thumbsdow
Don't forget jackstands. :p:
D4u2s0t 01-28-2008, 09:52 PM downpipe takes about 20 minutes max from UNDER the car. first time i did mine when i had the 2.2, i tried getting the bolts from the engine bay. was an absolute BITCH. when i recently did my zzp header/dp combo, i got the downpipe off in literally 5 minutes from underneath with a breaker bar.
Frankruffolo257 01-28-2008, 09:52 PM cool, headers on a cobalt, that got twin rotaries too!! sorry, just being a dick tonight
jdub777 01-28-2008, 09:53 PM so, in light of all this, does anybody know which downpipes to get? I e-mailed kenny on cobalt-addiction but i havnt heard back.
D4u2s0t 01-28-2008, 09:55 PM i had the cobalt addiction 2.5" downpipe, i liked it. it will sound like shit without a cat though. imo, not worth the extremely minimal hp you will gain

people are frying MAF's with intakes? really? i havent heard of it before
iLLmaTic3s 01-30-2008, 10:02 AM it can happen.
IonNinja 01-30-2008, 11:43 AM you can only get to bank 2 from the passenger side, so just be aware of that. you may have to drop the subframe and tilt the motor to the side a bit to gain access.
REDFOCZ 01-30-2008, 11:58 AM lol that is a smart ass remarck if i have ever heard one Jerry. but yeah we only have one header since we are only 4 babgers

I love my catless down pipe, and the way it sounds. (2.5" XTC de-cat). But then again, I love loud. My RX-7 was loud, and my Cobalt is loud. Plus, we don't have emissions out here, so it didn't affect me either way. Loud and proud baby, loud and proud. :)
But yeah, I'd heavily reccomend getting the downpipe, and doing the header and downpipe at the same time. It'll be a lot easier and less time consuming to knock them both out at the same time. I did my full exhaust (CA header/XTC 2.5" de-cat DP/ARK N2 cat-back) all at once, and it made life much easier. If you do it in pieces, your gonna have to go back and unbolt things (like your new header from your stock downpipe) you just bolted up prior to doing the downpipe.
