i'm sure they r the same wheels, i bet they changed the bolt pattern on the monte's to the new pattern... what i don't understand is how they always use wheels that r way to narrow for the tires... a 235/50 on a 7" on that monte ss, the regular monte uses a 6.5" wheel with a 225/55... who says: lets make a 17x6.5 wheel instead of a typical 7" wide wheel, and lets put a 225/55 on it... don't they have tire professionals that say: u should use at least a 7" wheel with a 225/55, and an 8" for a 235/50... oh well...

Wheels on the SS
FYI, the wheels are exactly the same, and they'll be the same on the upcoming TrailBlazer SS.
The 06 Monte SS/Impala SS/GTO will be a transverse FWD 5300 with DOD, and the remainders will get the 3.5 V6 found in the Malibu and Uplander (and respective GM families) and also a new 3.9 V6 (just a 5300 with the back cylinder block lopped off, a GM fave) added to them.
But the days of the RWD peformance sedan are long gone for anybody who doesn't wear a helmet or only turn left.
This link should clear a few things up. It contains nearly all the correct info (at least that which correlates to the GM info I've received).

and if you think RWD performance sedans are dead, better not drive the 300C SRT-8
yes, several times have i seen what looked like a cobalt, only to notice the silver bar accross the back. very similar, just a slightly longer nose (and yes, those headlights *cringe*) and the larger rear door/back seat.
