question about the 2.2s

How far back do the 2.2s go that are in cobalts now? im going today with a friend to pullapart and if they have a newer cavalier i would like to get the valve cover off of it. im just wondering how far back i can go and it still fit on the balt. thanks

Maybe ask your local dealer to compare the P/N between them. I would think all the 2.2 ecotec's would be interchangeable but not certain.

There are minor changes through out the years that will make things iffy when it comes to changing large components such as the head. I know there is a few ecotec 2.2s that use a Cam Position Sensor and there are a few that don't. This kind of small difference might hinder your plans.

There are more knowledgable ppl on this site though that will better answer your question.

The EcoTec is essentially the same with some internal differences. The Cavy's were running the motor as far back as 2003 (year for the new body style and motor) You should be able to interchange the valve cover from the cavy L61 to another L61 up to the 2006 model of it. In theory you should be able to put it on a LSJ engine but i haven't seen anybody do it. The fit for the 07 L61 may not work seeing that GM gave it 3 more horses and a Cam Position Sensor. The only way to know for sure is to get one and try and put it on.
