oil life meter

At what percentage does the computer actually throw the message telling you to change your oil?

does the cobalt have the % on there ........... hummmm.......

well with the rl the life meter tells you when to change it by useing a univeral calcuation by taking in consideration on how long the oil has been at a certian temp for and figures and ~ estimate of time that the oil will last, which varies as the car goes along and then when the sensors reach the setting that is preset for an oil change that is when it goes off .....................

in a nut shell thats what i was told

Once you reach below 10% it will prompt you.

This is what I was told aswell. In addition to this, I was told that if the oil has been in the car for 6 months that you change it regardless of what the oil life meter tells you.

I didn't change mine till 10%, dealer said at 20% it looked fine, I said eh **** it and waited another 2,000 miles before changing it. The good stuff lasts a long time.

Thanks guys. I was just wondering. I did my first one at about 5,000 miles and somewhere near 35%. This will be my second oil change. It's at 24% right now and almost 12,000 miles.
The oil didn't look dirty at all on the first change, so I'm not all that concerned. I do like this meter though!

Yeah I am at 7500 miles on my change and 41%. Definetly saves you some cash, even though it costs me 61 bux to get it changed at the dealer, cost a tad less in the long run than regular oil and the quick lube places.

the longtivity of the oil all depends on how hard you drive the car, if you are driving it calmly and not keeping it in the high rpms for a long time, ie racing every sec you have, then the oil WILL last for quite some time. Syn. oil is made to last a long time.

if you trust the meter and let it go till you are supposed to and you are still under your warranty and something happens to the engine, caused by the oil, then the dealer is REQUIRED to replace anything that is damaged caused by a problem with the oil life meter. BUT if you purposly go over the limit and YOU cause failure then it is all on you.

I changed mine at 25% and it looked fine. I am already at 75 again. It must take into consideration the spirited driving I have done recently. But I keep all records and reciepts.

the more time at higher rpms and the hotter temps is what causes the oil to loose life quickly.

I change mine @ the dealer every 3000 miles reguardless of what the meter says, plus it dosen't cost me a thing because it's under lease warrenty. I guess that is the only thing good about a lease, otherwise it wound be like everybody else @ about $60.00-$75.00 a pop.

Yikes, ya know since I have that meter, I haven't changed my oil every 3,000 miles.... It is as if I am not allowed to. I have 5k on mine now, I better change that!

you have free oil changes? thats cool

i dunno why people dont trust the meter
its there for a reason, gm isnt trying to trick people
i got mine changed when it told me to, changing synthetic oil at 3000 miles is straight up retarded

i hate when people are given technology and they dont make use of it

the owner's manual says to change oil when meter tells you too, or once a year, whichever comes first. I got 7000 miles out of mine before I was below 10%, and got it changed.
