View Full Version : My New Winter Wheels and Tires !
NightmareSS 12-14-2005, 12:33 PM Finally I got off my Azz and went to Dicount Tire around the corner from my house and got me some new Treads and Wheels for the SS/SC. Didn' want anything too expensive but wanted something that would do well in the sporatic winters we get here around Chicago. So I went with these........

Mike_42 12-22-2005, 01:58 AM hey NightmareSS, nice choice on the rims !!!!!!
But I got mine through www.tirerack.com, and these rims were I think the lowest cost 16x7's they had
but I differed from you on the tires and went with Blizzak WS-50
Here's pics I snapped of my car with the originals and then below is with my winter set installed (just put em on a week ago)

Mercury 12-22-2005, 02:04 AM Seems to be the most popular choice for winter rims lol.
l337m4573rpyr0 12-22-2005, 02:09 AM I got the same rims too. For tires I went with the Michelin X-Ice. I got the whole thing done thru tire rack for just over 700.
arsenal21 12-22-2005, 02:24 AM I got those same ones too but mine are black, with the blizzak revo's!!!

I'd say so Merc ! I have to say I love them ! Hardly no slipage at all on Ice or snow. I have so much trouble trying to power slide in them. Almost impossible !
hey NightmareSS, nice choice on the rims !!!!!!
Thanks same to you ! Yea I alomost opted for those but a lack of funds at the time kept me from going with them. Nice choice on the tire BTW. :twothumbs

I got what they got for rims too, but I got 17 inch rims and the WS-50s. My brother has the WS-50s on his Evo and they kick @ss in the snow. Almost wishing we get some snow now that I have them on.
SilverSS/SC 12-26-2005, 01:15 PM Snow tires make this a fun car to play in the white stuff . I have tried to get mine stuck , and its just pullin thru like a truck
Those wheels dont look to bad either , they look alot better than my Saab 9-3 16's I think .
dimeo09 12-26-2005, 01:29 PM yea i got the same 5 star wheels with winterforce tires... love emm
ps: i miss my pirellis:(

cmj917 12-27-2005, 11:36 AM Add another person to the list with the 16" Sport Edition F6s ... me. I ended up getting some Dunlop Wintersport M3s for the rubber, and I definitely have no complaints. They're great on ice and snow, and they are safe well into triple digits (when the roads are clear).
I ordered steel wheels from GM along with Michelin winter tires in 205/60-R16. My dealer mouted a tire and checked the front clearance to see what the fit was like. They said it fit fine, but the rotor in the front is pretty close to the wheel. They are afraid a rock may fly in there or that snow will build up and cause problems!
We tried a 17" (5 x 110) Uplander wheel, but it didn't fit. So, they said if I clean the 16" rims off once a week, I should be fine!
Has anyone had any problems running the 205/60R-16 (closest diameter to 215/45R-18) in the winter! I know lots of the GM truck have big brakes with little clearance between the rims. Should I risk the 16" or look for a 17" wheel with winter tires?
cmj917 02-23-2006, 05:25 PM I've had 0 problems with my 16" wheels, and I haven't heard of anybody that has ... seems to me like you'd be fine with a set of 16s. (Note, however, that I'm using the same wheels as pictured earlier in this page - the 5 spoke sport edition F6s, not steelies).
