ZEX Wet Kit #82021

So... I really want a "funny" car. I am looking into the ZEX kit. It seems pretty safe. I would also get the accessory kit they have (bottle heater, purge kit, etc.). I just called my mechanic and he said That I should definately NOT do it because of my manifold being plastic. He said it would crack it and wouldn't install it w/o beefing it up. Now I KNOW there are a load of people running nitrous on stock internals. Is this really safe? I want to as well but need more info on that aspect. I will not be using it everyday...maybe all day at the track one Saturday but def not everyday. What should I do?

BTW. 2.2 L. Thanks!

tell him to do some research before speaking

your manifold is not going to crack under normal nitrous use, especially at the power levels you will be running at.

and if at any event you were to have a nitrous backfire, what is a non plastic manifold gonna do about your pistons?

my suggestion, take your car somewhere else.

In the event of a backfire the plastic manifold will explode, some posted a video of that happening before.

I wouldn't necessarily rule out a nitrous system because of that risk, but it can happen, a cast manifold would be able to handle that more than likely.

well my mechanic was saying it would crack due to the change in temperature flowing through (warm the cold w/ NO2). Thanks for the help. I will most likely do the 2.4 intake upgrade that CED has.

Haha crack?! i highly doubt it would crack our intake mani says fairly cool and also look at the LS-1's (Correct me if iam wrong but arent they made of the same mat's?) they spray those motors all time! and on another note the reasoning behind (iam sure their are others) the nitrous back fire is because they are spaying at to low of an RPM nitrous is gonna flow at the same rate if ur at 1500 or 6000 (yes i know bottle temp an progressive cotrolers will change this but you get my point) as you can see from others if your smart about how much you spray, when, and how long you can safely have an reliable nitrous set up!
