Easier Interior Alternate Painting....
Easier Interior Alternate Painting....
For those of you who like that interior of the SS, the medium rough black texture on the doors and whatnot, I found a different way to make my car closer to the SS's without all the extra money.
Walmart sells something by 3m called Rubberized Undercoat. Its kinda like rhino lining and whatnot, but the compound has exceptional temperature resistance, paintability with multiple coats, and insulation qualities. I don't know how well it sands down smooth, but considering how hard it is when it dries i'd say its pretty good for sanding. The good part is you can spray it on in any weather between like -40 and 180 degrees, the air temperature only says how long its gonna take for it to dry. here it was 37 degrees when I did it, it took 3.5 hours for it to try solid and I installed them back in my car. Great thing is too it doesnt pick up dust or hair floating in the air like paint does either, its too dense of a material.
So anyways if you like the medium texture on the dashboard and the blackness of the SS interior, this stuff duplicates it pretty good when you do light coats. I'll put pics up of the windshield pillars I did and the mirror adjustment covers for the LT's I did so you guys can see the texture and what it looks like.....I like it, plus its hella good insulation too, so when its too cold or too hot it'll work with your air systems better.
Don't know if anyones interested....just thought I'd share....

you guys are absolutely right about the clear, and yes I do need better pics....I was on my way to work when I took the photo so yall are gonna have to wait till I finish work at noon to get better ones....
as for the chunks, all you have to do is spray even lighter coats on it to fix that. I like the look it has though, I'll do a clear coat picture for all you guys though.
By the way I figured a way to make a good dust free drying environment for painting and clearcoating, literally all you need is a painters plastic sheet, some PVC pipe and elbow joints, some tape, a car air filter and a vacuum. I got the idea from how they vacuum bag the stuff for carbon fiber.....more to come.....when I get a chance here at work....

Ghetto paint booths FTW!
hey guys, I got better pics of this rubberizer on my interior........I painted the glovebox only, NOT the sidepanel or the dash or the trim......turned out pretty good but I missed a spot
if you cant see it use this address http://s225.photobucket.com/albums/d...t=CIMG0020.jpg

I found out those globs there were appearing were from the nozzle when it would build up a little bit it would shoot out onto whatever your painting.....fixed that with a little solvent on the tip before I start working.....

ya these pictures totally look better than the mirror adjustment panels, they look almost perfect. on my car the little pillar where your mirror adjusters are isnt texturized so thats probably why it looked off to me
