For those of you who like your stock gauge faces but want blue led's, we tested our LED lighting upgrade kit with the stock face. It works quite well. Here is a pic.

http://www.blackcatcustom.com/images/cobalt%20blue%20led%20w-stock%20face.jpg

When using the blue LED kit, a special film needs to be applied behind the red markings. This film will be supplied by us if order the blue LED kit by itself.

The blue glowing needles is achieved by removing the red paint from the back of the stock needles. We then repainted them white and the result is the blue glow. We will post more detailed instructions on removing the stock red paint shortly.

Looks amazing. If you don't remove the red paint from behind the needle, does the needle still light up red??

It's $35 + shipping. There is soldering involved. Full detailed instructions are included.

They will light up a pale red color.

We supply 3 LED modules, 1 for each gauge. Each module has 2 small wires that need to be soldered to the main circuit board. The factory lights also need to be de-soldered from the main circuit board. Anyone with moderate soldering skills can do all the soldering in about 10 minutes. It also needs to be done with a low wattage soldering iron to be sure that there is no damage.

You only have to remove the paint on the needles. Nothing else. The LED's are soldered more or less where the stock lights are behind the gauge face. The LED's themselves are already soldered. All you have to solder is two small wires for each gauge.

We have a gauge face for the 2.2 in the SS/SC style, speedo goes to 120mph, not 160mph. Color and logo options are the same as the SS/SC. It's not on our website so you would have to call to order or place in the comments section of the cart that you want the SS/SC style.

There a pic of a black and red 2.2 gauge face with the SS/SC style on our custom design page.

^ once you take the needles off you I assume you sand the orange off of the bottom and paint them blue or what ever color you want. You don't have to paint the rest of the needle just the bottom.

Hi,
Yes you just paint the bottom/backside of the needles, nowhere else. If you want the needles any other color, we suggest that you paint a transparent color of your choice first, then white over it.
Also, please do not sand the stock color off as this will cloud up the needle. The original paint can be removed with just the 99% rubbing alcohol.

How about red led's? They'd look better on my red car.
Our Red LED kit will also work with the stock face.

The lighting shows like in the picture, it's slightly deeper blue in real life. The part that won't change is the DIC display. That will light up the stock color.

Do you have any images of the red LED kit?

We will have to take a picture of the Red LED kit with the stock face. We only have a picture of the red LED kit with one of our gauge faces installed.

For proper installation the Cobalt clusters should be VIN coded to your car. Something we can't do right now. So the only way for us to install is if you send us your cluster. For pricing please give us a call. Thanks.

This looks like a sweet idea... I attempted setting something like this up myself, but after a week, all of my LEDs and resistors blew on me....

So just to make it clear, we would have to desolder the existing bulbs on the circuit board and solder 2 wires in place of those lights? And do you plan on having a white LED kit to get that upscale Lexus/Mercedes look?

Also, the clusters are not VIN coded at all. As long as you match the model year you'll be okay. I bought an 06 cluster off of ebay that maxed at 140 MPH, where as I had the 120 MPH 07 cluster. The speeds matched up perfectly fine (many others have proved this too).

The only problem that I have is that I have chimes and beeps coming from the cluster (07s have the chimes in the radio headunit - 05s and 06s have the chimes only in the cluster) and my DIC can't be changed by the buttons (because I got an 06 cluster).

Hi, our LED kit is available in white. You would have to desolder the existing bulbs and solder 2 wires in place of those bulbs for each gauge.

Yes the clusters can be interchanged and will work. For a proper swap and for warranty purposes, the clusters should be VIN coded. We need to let people know this so they are aware of this before we can sell them a cluster. If someone is OK with this, we can sell a cluster with the face and LED's installed.

this VIN coding, is this something I can do, or will I have to have a dealer/tuner do it for me?
VIN coding is done by a speedometer shop and will match the cluster to your car. As stated above, we can sell a complete cluster with the face & LED's installed, but are not able to VIN code it. Please call us if you would like more info.

Are you looking to see the white led's with the stock face? Unfortunately I don't have a pic of that. The white led's with the stock face won't light up white because of the tint that's in the stock face.

This is a pic of the white led kit with one of our faces.

Yes the led's will be dimmable. They'll dim through a narrower range, for example if you dimmer goes from 0-10 now, it'll go from about 5-10 meaning the led's will be fully off at 5.
