"Lutz's $100K Cadillac creeps toward reality"

"DETROIT -- Robert Lutz's Cadillac dream might be closer to reality.

General Motors' vice chairman said last week that GM is actively pursuing a high-end, ultraluxury sedan that would sell for more than $100,000.

"One of the things we've got teed up is what we call the ULS, or ultraluxury sedan, that will penetrate up into a higher price position than any previous Cadillac," Lutz told a group of analysts.

One GM insider says Lutz has asked Cadillac to create a business case, but the vehicle has not received approval.

Another source familiar with future product says the vehicle likely will be built within "three or four years."

A luxury Cadillac has been a pet project of Lutz's ever since GM unveiled the dramatic rear-drive Cadillac Sixteen concept car at the 2003 Detroit auto show.

Lutz reaffirmed that GM will not build the Sixteen, which had a V-16 engine. But other options exist, including a V-12 engine GM is developing.

Lutz said a $100,000-plus Cadillac could be "a high-margin proposition."

A $100k Cadillac had better be very good, because I don't think that their current most expensive car, the XLR, is selling that well.

Ssssoooo is it going to be based off of the Cadillac Sixteen concept? Maybe its me but a V-12 is a bit much. I think a V-10 would be fine. If they are going to build an ULS (ultraluxury sedan) they need to consider looking at Rolls-Royce Phantom or a Bentley Arnage cause those are what would be considered an ultraluxury sedan.

I don't have much to say now I need to think but i don't have any time. Stupid classes.

Personally if I had 100,000 to throw down on a car I wouldn't be buying a Cadillac sedan...I'd be thinking 2 doors and the Porsche logo on it.

Reason for the V12 is so they can run with the BMW 7 series' and Merc S-Class V12 powerplants...Personally, if I had that kind of money it would head toward the V12 in the Aston Martin Vanquish

...then again the Ferrari F430 is ridiculous too, just would'nt want to be on a 2 year waiting list.

...screw it, I'd get the new Z06 for 65k and throw on a Supercharger or Twin Tubro and blow everyone away!

I don't think they are even pushing it very much. I haven't seen a single XLR commercail. Just a commercail with an XLR cameo. I have seen a bunch of XLR's on the road mostly because I worked down the block from the Caddy dealer.
