active oil cooling??

active oil cooling??

does anyone know if the SS s/c comes with any oil cooling at all? i was reading some of the posts about the pullys and about the the blower maybe over heating and frying. so if GM implimented any kinda oil cooling would that help uping boost lvls safly?

and second if gm failed to put any cooling into it would adding aftermarket oil coolers void warenty on the car??

I put wetter water into my 98 z24 and I think it contributed to trashing 2 rods, 1 thru the block. But I've heard the 2.4 in the z's had and inhearent design flow with the #3 cylinder

"Here's what we didn't know then: The $21,995 Cobalt SS—it comes only as a coupe and only with a five-speed manual—puts a heavy horsepower dollop on top of a taut, refined handling package. Forward of your feet is an extensively reworked version of GM's Ecotec 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine, augmented by an Eaton M62 twin-rotor, or Roots-type, supercharger with a peak blow of 12.0 psi and an integrated air-to-water intercooler that flushes away unwanted charge heat. Headlining the Ecotec's internal mods are a forged steel crank, sodium-filled exhaust valves, an oil cooler, and oil-jet cooling of the pistons. The package supplies 205 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 200 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm—all saddled to about 2900 pounds."

WHARE DID YOU PUT THE WETTER WATER???I THOUGHT IT WAS FOR THE ENGINE COOLENT ONLY???BY THE WAY IT'S CALLED WATER WETTER NOT WETTER WATER!!!

P.S. WHAT HAPPEND TO THE OTHER ROD???

The eaton M62 supercharger is totally self contained. It share no oil with the engine. Also it spins relatively slow with a max of 14,000 rpm's (which I don't even think our setup gets to that speed).

Turbos spin at much higher rates, in the 100,000's of rpms and require engine oil and sometimes coolant to be cooled. Centrifugal Superchargers also use oil from the engine for cooling as well.

That said:
GM has an oil cooler on the LSJ engine and it uses oil jets to cool the pistions internally. I think the cooler is mounted close the engine on the underside. I have never looked for it or seen it however.

The oil cooler on the LSJ is of the liquid-liquid type. It is mounted to the side of the block immediately to the right of the oil filter housing. it uses engine coolant to manage oil temperature.

YES, this is ok. engine oil always runs hotter than engine coolant and it is necessary for it to burn off condensation or other contaminants that form in the oil due to temperature changes as it warms up at start up and cools down at shut off. You dont ever want your oil to be below 220deg F. and it USUALLY runs about 50deg hotter coolant. But temps as high as 270-290 can be withstood by Mobil1 for indefinate periods of time.
