SS vs EVO...

SO there was a debate a while back about a race bulldog had with an evo so we setup a race against an evo with a guy that had just bought one. Before the race however, we found out that this was a brand spanking new 06 evo with an ECU flash which was effective for 40~ awhp across the board. Bulldog had a k&n intake which has shown by others to be effective for around 10~whp. We were trying to get a race against an evo that was closer to stock but never one to back down Bulldog still wanted to run so here is the result of that night ... oh can you tell when they BOTH miss 2nd gear???

56k = No

EVO's are SICK!! Definitly one of my favorite sport compacts. Nice job staying with it but the EVO is just too much car for the Cobalt

This is true, the Evo is a good amount more. But a good awd system don't come cheap. Neither does a nice turbo setup like the Evo has. You gotta remember, the Evo really isn't in our class, it's a nice step above. But you do have to hand it to the Cobalt, even though it's front wheel drive it can be made into a monster of a track car. GM has already proven this with their cars.

Either way, both cars are very nice and I would love to have an Evo...but I'm a poor white boy and can't afford one, so I got another Chevy.

If you can afford to BUY a Cobalt SS/SC then you can afford to GET an EVO.

my friend has a evo and there is no way even with stage 2 that a cobalt ss would keep up with it. im not trying to down the cobalt because i have a ss but, the evos are a one of the fastest cars ive been in. by the way you can get a used evo for about 20k stock or modded.

CTS-V was the fastest car I've been in SO FAR. My friend was drifting in it. It was sick. I'll admit, I was a tad bit scared. It destroys my friends evo with 3 inch catback and intake.

I'd never buy a car like an evo or sti used...unless it had 5k and was a dealer trade in or something.

As for his flash, he got it done at the dealership had it dynoed to prove it. The IX has a lot more room for adjustability than the previous cars did.

i would buy a used evo because, most of the used ones only have about 20k miles on them. trust me i have done the research and it is worth it to buy a used one. most of the used ones are owned by older guys and they take care of their cars, unlike some teenager.

lol I knew you would say that ... rob the evo guy had it done at the dealer ... he said it costs around 700 to do and it basically wakes up the turbo and increases the low and mid range torque along with the top end hp ... the evo was a brand new 06 which has a bigger turbo than an 05 if I beleive ... it also looked slightly different from the evo most are used to seeing ... the wing was different too

I know about the EVO IX, I am just saying no flash of the computer adds that much horsepower to the wheels.

Bulldog my car isn't used, it is called leasing.

memphisr24, CTS-Vs aren't that fast. Your buddy in the EVO can't drive.

A CTS-V runs 12's that will hand a EVO it's ass.

And adding 40whp to a Turbo car with just a tune is easy and gaining only 40hp is pretty low.

If the EVO was 100% it would have been a pretty good race.

Everyone I know with and EVO or STi (Young and older) beat the crap outta them, which is what I'd do too, but Im just sayin, to buy a used one is about 50/50 that it had been abused by its last owner. I mean who buys a car like that just to drive like a grandpa.

Thats genuine ricer math, it was a good race and the Evo outperformed the Cobalt straight up. If you dont have the extra $10k to put towards and Evo, your not going to have it to put into your engine.

I think the increase in performance is going to be just what everyone has asked for and the relatively low price that has been rumored is even more enticing.

You must be kidding there buddy. Since when is a CTS-V that runs high 12's stock "not that fast"?? A CTS-V will walk all over an Evo, considering Evo's run mid-low 13's stock, and thats only with an aggressive launch. Go from a roll, and they're really nothing special. Theres even a video on here of a Cobalt SS S/C hanging right with an Evo from a roll, and both vehicles were stock.

The Evo in the vid probably gained about 40HP at the crank from the reflash, that is very believable for a turbo vehicle. Thats the reason it walked away from the Cobalt SS S/C in the video like it did.

The owner of the Evo had before/after dynos done. He gained 40 to the wheels from it. That's insane for some tuning.
