Aftermarket shifters?

Who here has bought/installed any after market short throw shifters? Do you like it? what was the biggest difference from the stock one? I am have problems with my stock one, and was pondering about getting one. The only one I have seen is a b&m.

Hurst is coming out with one in February (though some people go a ship date of December ). Either shifter will shorten up the distance between gears, I'm hoping the Hurst will feel a little more solid than stock too.

just get the b & m, it's out now and took me like hour to install myself in the driveway with like no tools. it feels sweet. very different. I like it, JohnKB8 drove it too, ask him if he liked it. I would like to drive a stock one again and see if I can really tell the difference

I want the B&M but I HATE that shift knob. I want to keep the stock one. I am going to have to find a way to Ghetto Fab the stock knob onto the B&M shifter.

I have grown to like my B&M. It was a little diff. getting use to it at first because it changed all my gear locations closer to the dash. This is mainly due to the actual shifter stick. B&M is straight unlike the factory which bends back slightly. It def. shortens it up but there are no positive stops like the B&M pro-rippers shifters for example, which would make the shifter feel rock solid.

I did email a guy who does a lot of custom billet stuff. He is gonna let me know on a shift ball that works on the B&M.

I'm one of the guys that reported a ship date of Dec 21 on the Hurst- checked back today, and the website says if ordered today it will ship Dec 24, but my order tracking says out of stock until Jan 19. I'm feeling a little yanked around here, and I'm starting to think I'll see it in February just like everyone said. I definately like the look of the Hurst better, though and I really like the price, so I'm willing to wait.

The hardest part of the B&M install is getting the stock shifter apart and outta the car.

The knob is ghetto. I am looking for a new knob right now. The shift positions are different as well, I find myself wondering what gear I am right now. Hopefully I will figure it out soon.

Overall I don't think it's worth the money. Stock shifter is about the same. It doesn't really change the linkage that much so I don't see how it's 30 percent less.

Front to back seems shorter, but side to side I think it's exactly the same as stock.

That much sucks...1-2-3-4 is all pretty slick but then 5th is way out there in right field. Oh well, I'm still glad I pre-ordered the Hurst.

Honestly I don't see how hurst is going to be any better.

I mean they might look nicer, and have a bit better position but I don't see how it's going to change the side to side linkage. Unless they replace the arm that is actuated by the shifter. Then I could see it shortening up.

No, that's what I'm saying, I don't expect it to shorten it up side to side. If it does, that's just a bonus. I'm happy with the horizontal throw on 1-4, 5th just seems like it was thrown on as an afterthought, it feels significantly farther between 4 and 5 than it does between 2 and 3. I can shift really damn quick between 2 and 3. Besides, as far as for the track, auto-x you only use 1 and 2 and road course you're never going to use 5 anyway. I wanted it to shorten the vertical throw, so as long as it does that I'm happy.

I put my stock knob back on my B&M. Tap the inside and screw her on. I would never go back to stock either!!!

It will prolly be longer then that for you to get your Hurst shifter. At the SEMA show, when I talked to them they only had samples. They could not even give me a streight forward answer on when they thought they would have them in stock to ship out.

As for what someone else said about using a momo shift knob, no one is stopping you from doing so. The design is more or less the same as the 00-05 Cavalier shifter which plenty of people with Cavaler/Sunfires have used aftermarket shift knobs on the B&M Short Throw Shifter.

I've gone through RK Sport for mine. They were told directly from Hurst that it will be "February", though they did not give a date range, so it could be early February or it could be late February. I haven't gotten any updates from RK so I would say they're on time for the February ship date.

That Hurst shifter looks amazing. That's definately on my list of mods to do to my car. However, it would be cold to touch in the morning in the winter. I know just with the stock knob, if it's around 35 degrees or below out (F), as soon as I touch it, I get an instant chill that travels from my hand, up through my arm, and all into my body. They should have shift knob heaters as options from the dealer lol.
