Anyone ever buy a used stage kit?

I am contemplating buying a used stage kit from a member here.

Few questions:

I will have a dealer install it, and I won't be getting the number for the flash (for when they call GM). Will this have any effect on install or my warranty?

Anything else I should look out for? Thanks in advance.

Yes.

So I was wondering if the dealer can still flash my car even though the code has been used already?

Yeah... you won't have a warranty. I'm 99% sure you have to buy the kit new for it to keep your warranty going. BECAUSE it's the dealer doing the reflash that keeps your warranty going.

DON'T have it done at the dealer. Find a local SS/SC owner near you THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING... and have them help you.

Not 100% true. I drove mine for a whole day on stock tune... because the dealer "didn't know they had to reflash my car". And it ran fine... and still got right about the same gas mileage that it did before. I only went WOT once though... there is no telling what repetitive WOT's would do.

HOWEVER... it is still HIGHLY recommended to get a flash/retune.

They won't. You'll need someone with HPT to tune the car for you.

Crap.

Question 2: Do I need a stage 2 harness to use the stage 2 injectors, or can I just plug and play with the stock harness?

Stock Harness works. Everything that comes in the Stg2 package... is all you need. Belt, Inj, Pulley Hub, Pulley, and tune.

Find someone on here that has HPTuners... and become friends. If you really want... come to the Ohio Cobalt meet... and get a tune from WickedSS2005. That's what I am doing (I've already got Stg2 tune... I'm getting a better tune.) I believe he charges a one time fee of $200. Its a good deal.

So the dealer has no way to tune the car without the numbers from the kit?

How ghey. I'd come to Ohio but with school and living in upstate NY that's a bit far.

If I went to a dealer and asked for the stage 2 flash, could they give it to me or does it have to be with the stage 2 kit?

All they do... is punch in your VIN number... and GM sends them YOUR flash. And YOUR flash... is the stock flash. I don't think that they have any way of putting Stg2 flash on your car. You need to find someone with HPTuners.

you need a vci number and the vci number matches the vin on the car that it was orignally on

Gm does not just punch in your vin i tried that a buddy of mine works at gm and hooked up the teck 2 and it didnt work, you need the vci number that comes with the kit.
