I heart my Contis. They are race take offs, so around $100/tire with at least 75% life left. I know the size I run is used as the front tire for a 911, so they aren't taking a ton of abuse.

They are about $80 per tire more than the Hankooks. C91 is softer than what I'm using (C71), I don't think you would want that anyway for road racing.

What wheels are you using with those? That sounds like a good deal.

18x8 PF01. The tires are a 255/40/18, but it's a racing slick so they are bigger than that. I've had my fenders rolled and they clear ok.

Just purchased some Powell TCAB's along with new FE5 struts/shocks. Debated on Koni's and obviously they will help but I got that combo for less than the Koni's cost to begin with.

For time attack c91s are best....... You normally run your fastest lap within 10 laps so you want them hot fast but I mean you can run 15 minute sessions with no issues. Anyone fast in time attack normally runs a6s.. If I was doing wheel to wheel then yeah a c71s are mote optimal.

The Hoosiers are expensive unfortunately.

Konis are good and bad...eventually it will wear out the shock body even with a perfect cut and the insert will move.

Indeed. That along with the entire cutting thing and mixed reviews regarding abuse and them leaking had me hesitant.

I did lots of researched and figured this is best for now. Plus, I've been winning every autocross in my class so far on pretty much blown out FE5 stuff so I'm curious how it will handle with new (OEM) parts.

Yeah I've had mine on for a few years now with no leaks or knocks. I have a fix for the Konis too but it's not a diy home job

Right. They seem to be close to one size bigger, so probably 265. Do you have any pictures of them on the car?

I see. For short stints they would work great. I would love to try time attack or high speed autocross...if there was something closer. Or if my work schedule didn't suck so much.

I'm useless at taking pictures... This is the best I have. I can get some better ones in a couple weeks at my next track day.

Well don't just say that and not share.. lots of us running koni's and the ovalizing of the inserts has me concerned as my car rarely see's any "nice" days of driving.

fe5 and yyz should be fine for street and parking lot autox. Koni's even better but they come with a few caveats. They will oval, I had Pwerks do their magic and no oval issues after 17 months of dd. The Koni's also are adjustable so ya have to trial and error to see what set up you like. In my Ion they have to come out of the car to adjust so that's a pain in the ass and new alignment each time an adjustment is made. The advantage I found with the koni/yyz is that the car no longer unloads under heavy braking/cornering if there is a dip in the pavement. At track speeds that can be unsettling for both car and driver. I really only noticed that happened at a few places, on a few tracks though so if you aren't doing that with the car, no need for the expense.
If you do want to get on track for high speed autox, Midwestern Council runs events in the Chicago region and there are quite a few good track day groups to run with.

If ya look at the podium cars at our high speed autox events, almost everyone is on the A6s. If not in competition, run what ya get for cheap. But if ya wanna win, run what the winners run...or so the theory goes. For myself, the price of the A6s is almost prohibitively expensive. It's half my season race budget. But when ya figure, tires are the single biggest improvement you can make on a car..aside from the driver, it's money well spent. I mean if I've dropped 5 or 6 grand into the rest of the car getting it dialed in, why skimp on the tire package? That doesn't mean I can always afford A6s, or any other slick, but logic wise...just sayin

Finished 2nd in stx today. Adjusted my koni's to 1/4 turn from soft on back and 1 1/2 from soft in front from last events setup and car felt awesome. rs3's where killing it in the morning runs when it was a tad below 30 degrees.

Congrats.

Kind of off topic but I installed steel brake lines among other things this weekend and currently have an issue. The brake pedal is soft for the first inch or so of travel then it catches. Going to bleed again today after I took it out and activated the ABS a few times to see if that unlocks any air in the system.

Anyone have any hints as to what else it could be? Using a pressure bleeder and I'm pretty sure I got all the air out yesterday but we shall see.

2009 SS TC.

So first track day in 2 years, and first time attack next weekend. Track guys, what do you run for camber/ toe? Running Streets of Willow, thinking -2 Camber.... not sure if straight up or toe in like we used to do on the stock car....

I would personally never toe in as that would cause it to understeer more than zero toe. I couldn't tell you on the track but the only reason you would ever want to do that is if you had too much rear bar, or had your car set up to oversteer on an auto x course, making it snap oversteer on the race track, or even worse spin.

New exhaust and a 1.25" rear bar coming tomorrow, then the car will be ready.

Here are the first results with r-comps. There were a few national level people that were doing really well.
https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/file...20gemo_raw.htm

There was less understeer and less oversteer than rs3's. More overall grip. I'm definitely trying a 255 in the front next time with 245 in the back. The increased sidewall stiffness was really apparent. I think they will be worth the hassle of changing wheels.

I guess I will post up my current setup even though I took a step back when it comes to suspension.

2009 Cobalt SS

Power Modifications:
Stock Air Box with K&N Drop-in with ZZP Intake Arm
Turbo XS Upper Charge Pipe
ZZP Increased Clearance IC
Aftermarket Catted Downpipe (was on car when purchased)
MPX 3in Exhaust
Trifecta Budget Tune. HP tune through ZZP or Ryan Carter

Suspension Modifications:
KYB Struts with SSC Springs (ssyellow's old springs) Had Pedder XA Coilovers which I acquired through Joe Schute for my stock suspension and some cash. They were pretty worn after I used them for a year so got some cheap replacement stuff. Looking into YYZ/Koni or maybe BC Coilovers.
MOOG Sway Bar End Links
OTTP Stage 2 Mounts
OTTP Hardcore Sway Bar

Wheel and Tire
Enkei PF01 18X8
Hankook EVO V12 (currently) Have had GT Radial Champiro UHP's (pretty grippy tire for the money)

Brakes
Stock Ferodo Pads
Stock Rear Pads
Stock Fluid (waiting on a part for my Motive Brake Bleeder)

Did a lot of HPDE events when I owned my 2001 Integra Type R. Did 3 ITR Expos (BeaveRun, MAM, and GingerMan) 3 WMHM (GingerMan) and a handful of AutoX events each of those years. With the SS I've done 4 AutoX events, and was at GridLife this year. With me making less money than I used to and now going back to school so a part time job is out, it's taking a little longer to put the finishing touches on the car. Did feel awesome to get the car on the track this year since I haven't been to GingerMan in like 7 years!!!

I was pretty fail-tastic on getting better pictures of my setup... I ended up helping out with running things, so didn't have a lot of down time. It was also stupid hot outside, so any free time was spent in the photo trailer that had AC.

This happened either the first or second session of the day for this guy... C7 into the wall of 13. A friend watched the video and said he got on the brakes, which um, nope.

He used some zipties to hold it together, left that in the trash can, and went home after lunch.

That looks like Road America, and if so, turn 13? That's an odd corner to crash on . Then again I crashed after the kink so I probably shouldn't talk . That looks like an expensive piece with the carbon fiber splitter and what not
