Boost Gauge in SS SC

Would anyone be able to please give me as much information as you know about how the boost gauge in the cobalt SS SC works, what it is, and why it is there?

(I would rather read forum goer information than the cobalts manual which has half a page for the boost)

From just a technical understanding, the Boost gauge is there to measure how much air is being forced into the engine. The higher the boost gauge goes, the more air there is being forced into the engine.

Electronic gauge.
Monitors the boost from the Supercharger.

So..how is it used exactly?

As I drive, the boost indicator does not fluctuate and seems to just sit around 10 - 20 Hg (I think that was it).

Also, what does it do for the car?

Well, when your not accelerating, your supercharger isn't putting boost into the engine. The 10-20 in of Hg is normal. It measures the amount of vaccume that the S/C produces.

As you get into higher gears and lay on the pedal, the Supercharger will force air into the car giving it a Torque and speed boost.

I'm Very new to this site but mine is all over the charts as i drive there is no way even under normal driving that needle should stay between 10-20hg. Sounds like its not working correctly to me! But thats just guess

With you on that Brother. I'm In it to, i want a wideband but if i'm ganna have 2 gauges in the bezel like that i want them to look similar Color ,Trim and the 2 gauges don't seem to look anywhere near alike.

Why do you want 2 interceptors.

cause i am ditching the stock boost gauge. I need to monitor with the interceptors iat 1,iat 2 and boost. so therefore i need two of em.

They dont look alike cause the paint was a little bit off. I believe that the ones on the group buy will be molded the exact same color

That Speaks volumes to what Chevy did with the cobalt, Agressivly good looks and some go to back it up. the 2 most important things about selling a car to folks now a days.

Who'da thunk it would have been chevy to pull it off! wasn't me

So essentially, the boost is for speed? The faster I go, the more boost I get? So, how do I know that I am receiving a boost, what would the gauge be at?

I was under the assumption that you had to "activate" the boost somehow because even when I hit around 100km, I do not feel any real "boost"? Am I supposed too?

As for the person who was saying who buys a car without knowing the boost..I won the cobalt SS SC. So, I dont know anything about the boost which is why I am asking now. Any help would be appreciated.

You won it!? Wow, you are one lucky duder. I need pics of this thing now! Alright, you won't feel a boost a la NOS per say (reference: Fast and the Furious) but you will notice that there is a small jump in the amount of power it receives. Chevy says that a stock SS/SC will go up to 12 lbs. of boost, so check the gauge when you shift into upper gears. Also see this page for more details. http://www.superchargersonline.com/faq.asp

It's not the faster you go the more boost you get. It's the higher your engine RPMs are. Under hard acceleration you boost the most. The gauge should go from vacuum to boost as the revs go up.

So if I wanted to test this on some open road, what you're saying is that if I was driving side-by-side with a car without a booster, once I reach high speeds, I would actually be going faster than the car next to me. (being we are both in the same gears, and shifting at the same time)

Your gauge may not be working. If you're in first you should notice a drastic change in the pull as you RPMs approach redline. thats the boost kicking it.
