Delays! Delays! Delays!

Has anyone else with a build date around the 21st of March getting "last minute" update weekly that your Cobalt SS S/C build date has been pushed back ANOTHER week with the customer assistance people @ GM being given NO answer as to why. OR IS IT JUST ME??!! THis is ludacris. What the hell. Can't GM give any kind of informaton to their customers before they decide to go buy something else. From someone else. Now, don't get me wrong, I want my Cobalt as much if not more than most, but all I want is a reason instead of being made to feel that GM is trying to string me along for no reason at all. Can someone enlighten me on this situation, or does anyone feel like they are getting the run-around. Honesty still works GM!! Spring is right around the corner!!!

Well there is definetly a reason for all the delays I am sure. GM needs to sell cars to make money, which is why they are in business. As for the real reason, I don't think I have ever worked for a company that admitted anything to it's customer it didn't have too. In the grand scheme of things, a small delay (months) in the production/delivery of cobalts over the life of the model isn't that big a deal.

We can only hope that the exec in charge of the cobalt line isn't getting their phat bonus at the end of the year cause he missed all his deadlines. But if I know execs they probably still will

There's a difference between "knowing" and "telling".

What were you told when you originally ordered the vehicle? Then you were told there was a delay. Now you're waiting and you're unhappy about it. That's understandable.

If GM Canada told you one date, why did you call back and ask again?

The size of your particular dealership has nothing to do with your build date. They simply told you one answer that you chose to believe.

Do you really think that's what's going on, or do you think that we just don't know for a fact exactly what is going on and it's making us pissed off?

Fact of the matter is, there are delays. We don't know exactly where our orders are, and that makes people unhappy. No reputable news organization is going to care about that. Why? Because delays in production are a fact of life, not because they're "lying to you."

Delays suck. I agree.

Threatening sucks more and just makes people look unintelligent.

Its being delayed because all the union GM workers decided to take 10 more breaks a day on top of their 300 now, on company time. Its the union way you know

well villain, reason is i called 3times is because i spoke to a gm custy rep,she said my build date was march 28,and she had to confirm that with production dept, she never called me in a week, then i called her on ext,got a voice that she whould be on hoildays for a week,so i talked to somelse with my order number, she told me that me order was pushed back until sept and that i will buying a 2006, so then when i called the dealer they had no idea what was goin on,so then i got call couple days from a guy that was taking care of the since the first rep,(cathy) was on holidays and said my build date was in may,so i was all confused then thats when i spoke to the owner of the dealer to find out whats goin on there running all kinds of ads here in toronto on newspaper, t.v.on the radio,so if there having problems or delays i think they stop advertising a car which isnt even here or may not be here, my opinon is thats false advertising

Same here, man. I called for a build date March01/05. Was told March 14/05. She told me that she would follow up the week before, and she did. To tell me that it was bumped a week to the 21st. Then, she told me that she would follow up again, and I got a call TODAY saying "overall delay", and that the NEW build date is March 28/05. So am I asking for it, or are they just farting around without giving out any type of logical reason. I am a reasonable man, I'm sure I can handle it . And so we're all clear, NO blame is being put on GM Customer Assistance, or the dealerships. They are being kept in the dark as well. My dealer here has been informed that the C-5 Racing Hart's WOULD be on my car........right up until they got a bulletin, LAST FRIDAY, that they wouldn't be. When GM knew for a while that they wouldn't be on there.

Who's lying to who.

I don't have a Cobalt on order, but I was just talking to the manager of the GM dealer I used to work at. They ordered a red S/C SS last summer, and it just got cancelled. His district rep told him that British Columbia is only getting 44 S/C SS models for 2005, and our dealer is not one of them. They are basing allocation on past sales of Z24 models. I think my local dealer had two Z24's over the last three years. Roughly 75% of our dealer volume is 4x4 diesel pickups.

I have a Cobalt and have been having computer problems something in the software causing the oil light and fuel gages not to work properly, the dealer has mine on a national backorder. This might be the reason for the delay.

My cobalt is sick

I bought my cobalt in Feb. I was real excited about it, good gas mileage quiet. I then noticed the MPG, fuel range and fuel gauge was not working together. Took it back in and they were going to reinstall the softwre into my computer. It locked up on them and I had to get another computer. It took over a week for it to come in. I get it back and the oil life and light now stay on constantly and it still seems to be a ECM problem and it is on national backorder. They have field engineers looking at dozens of cars with these similiar problems. SO if anybody is interested in buying one make sure everything works right because these can end up on the lemon list, engineers are having to rewrite the software for these cars.

Thanks for the info, ayersshawn. In a way I hope that's why there is such a delay. It sure would SUCk if my Black SS S/C ended up here in Edmonton with problems. All I want to do is drive it CONSTANTLY. My excitement for getting the car has played with my emotions, every time I have heard of a delay. With that said, if GM is doing everything that they can to put out a quaility product(not to mention SWEET LOOKING), then my hats of to them. If they are insistent in puttting out a car that will make people forget about the cavalier line and start looking into the future of Chevy, this is the one that will do it. And I CAN'T WAIT to be one of the few, IF NOT ONLY, one around Edmonton to have one. C'MON BABY, I'M WAITIN' FOR YA! WOOOOOOOOH!!!!!

Cool. Another Edmontonian...

Back to the topic, I see 1 of 2 things. Either:
1. There are problems with the car (likely as it's a first year release not counting Ion RL).
2. They're releasing a few at a time thus they're rare and people are willing to pay more.

I'm betting on #1 though.

Dude that sucks. I wonder if they are making every Canadian car in June, and just won't tell us to keep us happy??? My salesman told me all of the Cobalt SS S/C's showing up in Canadian dealerships are there to be used as test vehicles and sell people on buying a 2006 Cobalt SS S/C. He said they can't sell them till certain date, even though some are already sold.

I REALLY REALLY want to see a Canadian in a Cobalt SS S/C soon to put my mind at ease.

Thumbs down

i had a build date of 3/21, i asked my salesman if there was any change, and he checked and found it was pushed back to 4/4 now... its silly how all the people who preordered back in late summer, r still waiting, while people r coming in off the street and buying the cars that have just appeared, mostly in the pittsburgh area... i checked and there r 13 cars in the pittsburgh area, all red, and 12 with the red interior...

aka_Matt, mine was pulled for build this week. I think chevy is still trying to catch up on pre orders, mine was ordered in Oct. how about yours? BTW I never got a build date, just notification it was released to the factory and today that it had been puled for build.

arch, i preordered back in sept... mine was "pulled" on 2/16 like all the preorders, but i got the G85 added anyway a few days later... my dealer told me he was able to change it, and got the 'tentitive' build date of 3/21, and i asked today, and found it was pushed to 4/4... we will be getting 1 from the auto show on thursday, red with red interior i think, i could get that 1 if i wanted, but i don't want red... oh well... good thing i'm not in any rush...

I'll bet the G85 caused the pushback. There have been rumors that there were issues with the Recaro's. (I still wish I had them though).

At least the Canadians can talk to a GM rep. and they'll supply a build date. In the states we have to deal with goofy sales guys that barely know the car exists. We end up telling them about it!

Can you Canucks come down and buy a US car and take it back over the border, or is there some bullshit law that doesn't allow that?

I don't know what the laws are, but reading the speedometer might be -- they use metric and we use English, so if a Canadian buys a U.S. car (and vice versa), they'll have to look at the really small km/h numbers on the speedometer. A growing number of GM cars can switch between MPH and km/h, but the Cobalt isn't one of them.
