this isnt bad actually, do you actually get a programmer to take the tune off if you have to? and do they have pre set options for like street and track,etc... what would be the diff between these guys and say westers.
Having the tools to tune your car and knowing how to use them are two different things.
I think the best way for a novice to use carputing's software is to first purchase a wester's or vector's tune. Then use the ls2 crack tool to see and record the settings, using this as a basis for your mods to fine tune your individual car. That is assuming you have a wideband and access to a dyno. Tuning ain't cheap.

Actually I have bought and posted about this company a while back I just got my Lap top so in a week I going to tune my car. The guy I talked to is Ken, what ever qoestions you have go to the site and ask the doc I forgot the whole address but it is there. The reason I bought it from that company was due to the software and I don't have to send it out for a week or so, also the guy (Ken) has done his solstice and it works fine. so hopefully I will inform you on the gains this has. also I'm still waiting for K&N to call me or I might have to go with Injen or AEM and just go for the tune that way because it will tune to the cai anyway
shorty, i emailed ken with a bunch of questions i had. this is what he had to say:
so basicly what i've found out from my research is that companies like vector and wester reflash with a GM update reflash, then upload pre-canned "tuned" binaries to your PCM, and charge you 500 to do 2 minutes of work!
If anyone has ever used an old timing light or jetted a carb to gain a little from an old car then you'll understand how much of a rip off a one-time non-car-specific-tune for 500 is... It looks like the only fuctionality that is missing from LS1-edit that i feel is extemely important is the VVT tuning.
Other then carputing, are there any other software packages anyone is aware of? Westers has a product but im unable to get ahold of anyone that can tell me if it can be used on the LE5...
The LE5 is also used in the Solstice. I have one as a development
car, and we have several shops using it on solstice, including one that
developed a turbo package using our tuner.
I have the fuel, Timing, and torque management in the editor. I have
not worked out the cam timing yet, so it is not currently tunable with
LS2-edit.

OK thats not what I was told so I'll get back to him today maybe he was talking about the turbo part of not working out the timing and yes I have worked on many older cars wit using a timing light and even now a days the gas is so crappy out there a timing light on older cars isn't the best especiallt if people are not using the same gas
totally, two cars of the same m/m/y will react differently to timing and fual. add the C.A.R.B. crap for california gas and you've got knocking or poor preformance
but to be fair to vector and those boys, i havent seen a single person complain about the pre-canned tunes, so i might just be too old school in my thinking...
im going to try again to contact westers and see what thier software can do...

im not complaining or anything nor do i wish to change the subject of this thread but...why cant they just put this tune in a predator type of unit... it would make life so much easier for some of us that dont want to tinker around with so many settings, just set to performance or whatever and your done..i really think alot of people are intimidated by programs like this, i meant its great for those who know what the hell theyr doing but for others this isn't the case.
just let those handheld companies know they have a market and they'll do it.
its all about your money, you got it, but they have to spend it on R&D to get yours...
handheld is a horrible idea tho. go the vector route if your gunna do that...

Just to make you guys aware I sell Westers Garage custom tunes from Tune Time Performance and have done R&D on the LS2,LS4,2.4 just to name a few [ I even tuned a 80k STS-V and made 40 rwhp]. All of our R&D comes from the Dyno/Street /Track . I can tell you it takes more then a couple of dyno pulls to make a tune. Our tunes are not "canned " you choose more parameters with our order sheet then a handheld could ever dream or want to . I have never seen a handheld make close to what they claim on a dyno and we routinely beet them by 20-30% with better fuel economy to boot . I'm all for the DIY guy but with a couple of bad key strokes you can lose a motor . This is not a scare tactic I'm only telling you the truth . Yes we use some of the software available to you but we also write our own .
I'm running a Group Buy in my vendor thread $350 if you get one done live or send in your OEM ECM .[Same Day turn around]
Our customers make at least 16 whp and over 20 wtq on 93 octane tune .
Trust me when I say you can spend hrs-days reading and testing and not make close to what we have . I'm a car guy 1st just like you I live .eat and breathe Cars GM's are closest to me
BTW we will tune for what ever mod you want or have. Buy a New car that we have a tune for and well apply what you paid for this tune toward your new one . Right now at Westers there is a sunfire with a turbo and supercharger getting tuned .
Please feel free to ask any questions. Just so you know we have a Chevy dealer and a Cadillac /Hummer dealer that resale our products also
Thanks
