Lightbulb Launching with DR's

Ive been tracking the car all summer trying to get into the 12's. My local track is just awful!! While I keep gaining more and more Trap Speed my 1/4 time has stopped improving. I have to leave the line at 2500ish and ease into the throttle, almost like it was a stop light!!

I have a set of SS/NA's for winter and just saw the Import vs Domestic showdown coming up at Atco... So I bought some Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials for the SS/NA's. I have NEVER raced on DR's before, slicks yes! I have some questions to limit the amount of trial and error when I show up next weekend. I really would like to get into the mid 12's, I think my trap speed is high enough to make it possible. Typically run 13.1-13.2's at 114-115mph.

What would be a good RPM to start launching at? Are you doing a quick burnout with the DR's or a long one like they were slicks? 2nd gear burnout?

I have the TTR Solid Motor Mounts but Id like to TRY and not break my stock axles next weekend LOL..

They are a softer compound than street tires so a SMALL burnout may not be a bad thing, Maybe a quick spin to heat them up a little bit.
as for launching, your first time down the track should somewhat be your "trial" run, figure out track conditions, hook or not etc...
I would try a 3500rpm launch first, and go from there. IF there is no room for a trial run pass then ask people who have already ran and ask them there thoughts on track conditions and estimate based on what they say...

Good luck!

I ran drag radials at 19 psi and left at 5000 rpm with a 1.88 60 ft time. Im having trouble with the 1-2 shift. It dosnt want to go into gear over 6000 rpm even with the new shifter

I had that problem (mine was like you hit a wall when you went to shift at high rpms).. Mine turned out to be be a problem where the seal that goes between the line that comes to the trans and the nipple on the trans had popped off the ridge that holds it. So it would work fine on a slow shift, but when you punched the pedal to make a fast shift, it would leak around the seal and not put engage the clutch.. took me like 3-4 months to find the issue

just be careful. You might see some more wheel hop than normal since you will be trying to launch harder. wheel leads to broken axles or worse, trans. I would have gotten slicks personally.

This is true. Also try launching around 5,000rpm but ride it out. DR's are great but they still spin I have some g-force DR's that I ran on my eclispe. but on 17" you should get around 1.8 60ft

I ran 20psi but I never tryed any others

I bought these to run for now, I want to get a setup with slicks for next year. My friend said he will buy these off of me after I run them this weekend, so no big loss!

I bought MT ET DR's 205/40/17. It was a toss up between those and 225/45 BFG's. The few people I talked to said to go with the MT's over the BFG's.

I dont plan on doing any NLS except for the 3-4 right at the end of the track, should be ok doing just that right? Thanks for the warning tho Steddy!! I usually never NLS with the tune unless Im at the track. I guess it's only a matter of time before **** goes wrong tho!!

Im going to start with 20psi in the tires and a 4K launch with a quick slipping action on the clutch, def not dumping it LOL!!

Don't do a huge burnout. You cant drop-clutch-launch like you would with a slick. Roll out with the clutch and motor @ 2500 and let her have it when the clutch is engaged.

Judging by your trap speeds, with your power, they should hold though first gear. If you actually make 372whp, however unlikely, your going to have trouble keeping the tires from lightting up no matter how soft you launch.
