Winter Tires -OR- How I learned to love control.

Hello Everybody!

So here is the story, Ive been out of town for a bunch of months and I am back in calgary to stay. Yay. I have decided that with the location I live and the condition of the roads (based on last year) I am going to drive my car in the winter. For this I need some tires.

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC and I am going with the following information:

Smallest Rim Size: 16 in. with 7.5 in. Offset (correct?)
Winter Tire Size: 205/55R16
Bolt Pattern: 5x110mm

Are those correct? With those numbers Ive called around and found the following:

Tire Pirates just East of Chinook has Tires and rims out the door(Everything included, mounting, tire tax and GST) for $898.00

Racetrac on Ogden road quoted me 542 for all 4 tires and about $68 (each) for rims. this brings me to 820.00 without mounting, GST and Tire Tax.

My question to you is do you know of any good cheap places to get tires and rims? Im not looking to mount onto my stock rims (unless it is a whole lot cheaper). Anyone got extras or good advice for where I can get them?

Thanks in advance, and I hope that Now I am here for good I should be a regular on the forums and am looking forward to sharing what knowledge I can. If anyone needs a photographer/digital designer/hosting or anything related to those, give me a message.

Cheers!

you pay for what you get, just make sure that the tires them self are good quality. I dont have to tell you how bad the weather can get here, and having the best tires makes a big difference. I personally went with Nokian Hakkilellian (sp?). They are the absolute best you can get, but extremely pricy.

welcome back to calgary optical. and you could probably drop off a hundred or so by mounting onto your stock tires.
