2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP

When I was shopping for my current 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS I was looking in a few different places at a few different cars. Now mind this was a while back, I was looking for a 2005 GTO. When I stopped into the dealership I couldn't help but be intrigued by the sexy curves of the solstice. They mentioned, they weren't sure but they mentioned something about a Turbo Ecotec - same motor as the Cobalt!!

Well I guess it's true, it's already released and in production and spools out 260 horsepower on the 2.0 ecotec motor. I can see already motors swaps are in the future but why stop there?

How hard would it be to swap the transmission, the drivetrain, and the rearend??? Yea, a rear wheel drive turbo six speed Cobalt SS??

I'm in the process of trying to sell my car but if I can find a totaled solstice -- it's on.

erm, you getting rid of your car but are willing to do things to it as well? yikes! someone needs to check themselves

That motor will not just "drop" in. It's transversley mounted. Your Re-engineering the car to fit it in there.

Yea, the structure of the car is not suited for RWD. You would need to re-engineer the suspension/chassie/engine bay just to get it to work...

To infeasable if you ask me.

I don't think it's as far off as you guys think if you have some skills with a welder and good cutter you should be just fine. The rearend mounting would be the hardest but a simple fuel cell in the trunk and you would have more then enough room to mount something back there.

Oh yea and I'm just looking to unload the car if I can. If I can't, it's gonna get fast - real fast.

for the price of doing what you are talking about you might as well buy the GXP....its a way cooler car then the SS in my opinion...especially when the stage kits and upgrades start coming out.

I agree with that but anybody with a fat check book and a good eye is gonna have a solstice gxp.

I don't know if anybody is running a Cobalt SS with a rear wheel drive setup.

well of course no one is because of the cost and amount of work involved...but hey if you got the time and money to do it then anything is possible...hell...if you got the cash make it AWD lol

I'm not a big fan of AWD, it helps off the line but then hurts you for the other 1300 feet!!

I just wanted to get a good conversation going though. Even if the conversion possibility isn't there I'm sure those turbo setups are going to work for the Cobalt guys. It's a 2.0 ecotec so unless they re-engineer the powerplant family we should be set.

I am opening up my shop and have already planned on re-engineering my 2.4L N/A SS FWD to a RWD Turboed beast...

but than again, having my own shop with other vehicles to drive, I have that option.
