cobalt ss sc lsd

ive been reading a lot of people say that the lsd in the ss sc wont make a difference in acceleration. i have the g85 on my car and have had no problem with wheel spin at all. the tires chirp in first a little and then from 1-2 but i have had no problem with really bad wheel spin like some people have had problems with. some one said it only helps when cornering but how dose the lsd know then your turning or going straight? in my opinion i think it makes a big difference.

The diff knows when you are turning because the outside wheel will have to turn faster through the corner, and if you are really cranking around a corner or nail it in mid-corner the inside wheel has the weight shifting off of it and will want to spin. Now would a LSD help all that much in a straight line i don't know, pin it through first into second and get some tire smoke going then go back and count how many black strips are on the ground and you tell me if it makes a difference.........

Well what you have heard is true for the most part about the LSD on the Cobalt. In most FWD high-horsepower cars, there are some serious traction problems and torque steer when you launch the car hard. A limited-slip diff helps by keeping both wheels spinning at the same rate and evenly distributing power. However, the SS S/C has equal length halfshafts, therefore power is pretty much evenly distributed to the wheels even without the LSD. So in a straight line, the G85 equipped SS S/C's don't have much of (if any) advantage over a non-LSD equipped Cobalt

Cornering is a different story. When you enter a turn hard and try to power out of the turn quickly, the inside wheel will spin due to weight transfer to the outer wheel. With an LSD, the if one of the wheels starts to lose traction, more power is then sent to the other wheel, in this case being the inside wheel in the corner. So basically in the turns the LSD allows you to come out of the corner strong, without excessive wheels spin

Hope that helps.

it dose hepl but if you are going in a straight line and floor it if one wheel starts to spin it would then send power to the other tire just like if you where cornering right?
