New tires for my 2.0, stock rims ?

OK like most of you I will be driving my cobalt here during the winter. Any bad stuff I will probably stay out of, but for the light stuff and the icy nights I want a better pair of tires for my car then the Summer tires that ive heard comparisons of as being (Ice skates).

I was thinking about the all season Perelli MS's and am ready to buy them now. However I have a question regarding putting the tires on the car.

1.) can I do it or does it require computer balancing and stuff?

2.) Can you take it to places like just tires, and stuff and have them put them on for you? If you go this route what is a reasonable price to expect for them to mount and balance 4 tires?

3.) they will let you bring you old tires home rigth?

If you have the equipment you might be able to do it yourself, I don't know much about tires but I think they may have to be balanced. I am not sure if balancing is only need with new rims, or new tires on same rims too.

You can take it to any place that does tires. I am sure it will be cheaper than the dealer, I don't know on a price though.

I went to a local tire place about a year ago and they let me take my tire home. They usually ask if you want it, or you can pay them to dispose of it.

i wanted to do the same thing ywith a set of rims for my Blazer. it cost me 40 bucks mounted and balanced (oem spec). had it done at Dunn Tire (local chain tire dealer). they put the old tires in the back and i left within a half hour. i know it's not exactly the same but hey...

but i know places like Dunn tire (chain tire/wheel dealers) won't usually deal with rims any larger than 18", at least ones they didn't sell to you...i think they have some insurance issue or there employees just suck at what they do (sorry if anyone works at one ).

I don't see why you couldn't go to a dealer and have them swap for you...can't see why it would be a problem (probably expensive)

good luck!

They have to balanced, even if it's the same tire that was taken off and put back on. Tires are never perfectly balanced. That's why weights are added. Without them you will get a vibration.

1- Can you do it? um, you mean can you bolt new rims and tires onto your car? I'd hope so. If you mean can YOU breakdown the tires on your rims and put on new ones, um.....no. And yes they MUST be balanced.

2- Yes. Thats like asking for insurance prices. Prices vary from town to town state to state, etc. Call around locally.

3- Your stock tires are like $200+ new each. Yes, they are yours, take them.
