can you take the rev limiter of the auto??

i have a 2.4 SS and when it is in park or neutral it will not rev over 4000 rpm's...
i kno it isnt good for my motor to be reving it anything over this, but sometimes i like to show off my exhaust but i cant rev it all the way up to get the full effect...
i was wondering if i am stuck with this or if there is a way to get rid of it??

Prepared to be flamed. Put on the suit while you still can.

I can rev mine to red line.. I've even launched mine at red line with no hurtin.. Good luck with it.. Sorry I didn't read that you had an auto..Might be a protective thing for the motor.. And why would people flame him? seems like a legit question..wierd

Yes its possible, yes its bad for your engine...No you shouldn't do it, and you get plenty of effect at 4K

I'm gonna say this but you can do this at your own risk, I found this out on the trailblazer forum and tried it on my sisters trailblazer, moms equinox, and my cavalier. carefully and steadily hold the shifter between park and reverse. It confuses the neutral saftey switch and disengages is but also keeps the car out of gear. But this is at your own risk I am not accountable for any sort of damage that could happen like someone letting the shifter go into reverse. actually it would be smart if you try it to make sure you have your e-brake set.

ummm 4k and 6.5k sound pretty much the exact same first off and 2. you shouldn't be passing 4k any way unless ur racing or something..u remind me of the youtube vid of a guy just sitting still and hitting the rev limiter like 6 times in a row for no reason or to "show off" y'know...you know how u can get a REALLY big full effect?..buy a honda with like 9k rpm then u'll get as much full effect as much as u want

Whats wrong with wanting to show off your exhaust? GM needs to stop slapping all kinds of time and money developing and implementing all these antifun devices and settings and mabie they wouldent show as huge of finantial losses.

But isn't that the point of modding a car is to show off what youve done?

Hey it's his car. He asked if it could be done or not.

Take it easy on him.

wait... so you're saying that people are not buying GM because you can't rev over 4k in your automatic car?

WOW. Just WOW. First post that actually made me laugh harder than "I want to rev past 4k to show off my exhaust." You know what, you're right. Screw um. Let's not make cars idiot proof. If people are really that damn stupid, let them blow up their motor or tranny. In fact, encourage the service writers and techs to laugh at these people when they want their ****-ups covered under warranty. Hell, if I owned a dealership I'd take it one step further - give em all cameras and capture the dumbasses' faces when the service writer and/or tech tells them "I'm sorry, your warranty doesn't cover stupid, son," then put it up on a wall of shame in the service bay.

BTW, love the reference to "anti-fun device" and auto trans in the same thread. Irony at its finest.

Damn Kevin, you should quit your videography job and go be CEO of GM. You so smart.

Buy a HAHN 2.4L Turbo Kit and the canned tune doesnt come with a rpm limiter (until redline)

I know its your car. But unless you have a modified exhaust...you remind me of the 16 year olds who just got a license and mommy bought them a car and you sit in the schools parking lot revving your motors and driving "fast" in and out of the isles.

In all honesty. Ya, the 4k RPM limit was kinda a damper. But it didn't matter. (to me anyway)

guy take it easy on him....he just want to know the answer to his question.

bottom line, yes you can do it (i imagine every tuning place can do it for you). But should you do it? that's up to you.
