AZ Porous/Cracked Blocks

Special Request!!!!

Is there anyone here who has had their LNF block replaced due to a cracked block? I'm especially interested if you've had it done after the 5 year warranty has expired. Mine just got towed to the dealer yesterday and the guy has already said to not expect them to cover the cost. I'm trying to prepare for the battle. I found this thread of an HHR owner that ended up with a $2500 bill: Cracked block resolution, 6 months later... - Chevy HHR Network

If you did better, which dealer did you visit? Who did you talk to? Did you have to go to a higher authority (within GM, not Jesus)?

If this doesn't work out and I have to buy a new short block on my own (like the LDK from ZZP for $1500), does anyone have experience swapping blocks, or know of a good shop that'll do it right and cheaper than the dealer?

Thanks!

Round 1: Dealer said the bill would be $7000 and they can knock of $1200 for a final price of $5800. Obviously that won't cut it. I'll talk to the service director tomorrow morning.

Eggsactly. I'll talk to the service director tomorrow. I'll see what he says they can do. I'm expecting my next step will be to GM customer service, but also expecting that to not get very far. My goal is to get a hold of the regional service manager or engineering rep. If that's not satisfactory I'll get a consultation with a lawyer. If this were a one-off thing I can understand being SOL but this is systemic. I shouldn't be penalized because I didn't beat the **** out of my car and it happened to last 5.5 years before failing rather than happening sooner.
