Do I need hubcentric rings?
OK, so I have a set of rims being delivered Monday for my SS/SC, and I bought them off of E-Bay. They are 18x7.5 with a 40 offset. They do not come with hubcentric rings. I did search and the answers are very vague, so I just want to know how do I know if I need them or not? If I do need them, what is the size that I need to get? Thanks a lot guys and girls!

And btw, I like your rims. I almost got them before mine, but I just wasn't sure. I wanted a more flat spoke appearance. But they look great on your car!

You should use hub rings to center the new wheel properly, which helps you avoid vibration. You need to find out the diameter of the hub of your wheel. The back of your new wheels will have a hub of a certain diameter. Then you find a hub ring that has a diameter of 65.1 mm for the inner diameter and the outer diameter will be the same as whatever the hub of the wheel measures. I just put new wheels on my car and the wheels had a hub diameter of 72.62 mm. So I bought hub rings that were 65.1 mm inner diameter and 72.62 mm outer diameter. Here is a link to the place that I got mine from. They have a good selection if you have a cobalt.

Call the place you got the wheels at and see if they can tell you the wheel hub diameter. It important to center new wheels on the hub to prevent vibration and to place an even amount of force, or stress, on each wheel stud.

Your Welcome! You will need to find out the hub diameter of your wheel to get the right fit. They call it the "center bore diameter" of the wheel. This link just gives information on a wheel and if you read the info you will see a center bore diameter listed for the wheel. Just FYI as an example.

Hey,
I had the same post a few weeks ago.. I decided to buy the plastic rings... I think I found an auction on Ebay that had rings in our size or close, and called the wheel store that had started the auction...the guy on the phone figured out what size I needed for my rim brand and type, and sent them to me for under $20... Maybe paid 15 or $16 shipped.....they worked great... The hub rings only help you center the rim when installing it. They do not bear any weight of the car or anything.....no vibes after install....So I would say definately find a set in the correct size....

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't hurt to put them on, so I ordered them. Now I just have to wait on them to get here so I can put on my rims that are sitting in my front room!

Yeah, I had to wait also!!!....then when I finally got the rings, my wife was like, "what are you doing playing with your car at midnight???" I could not wait even one more day!!! I had bought those rims before winter, and let them sit in the garage until May. But it was worth it!!

almost one month here too.. How you like it?? I have not driven my car much.. Lots of nasty stormy weather here in Wisconsin.... I am afraid of getting stuck at work and then getting softball sized hail like they did over by Milwaukee. I try to garage my baby when the weather might be bad. I left my 90 mustang Gt out once when it was newer, had huge golfball hail... I almost cried.... wait, I DID cry!!! So, whats the next project?? ha ha... What kind of rims did you buy?? I also bought mine on an Ebay auction... saved almost 50% off of retail....

I love my Stage 2. I also have a 2.9 pulley on it. We don't really have too much bad weather here in SC so I've driven mine a lot! Next up, I'm going to get a heat exchanger and I need some springs to drop it. I have an intake sitting in my storage unit so I need to get that put on too. I got TIG rims off a guy on e-bay. I was happy for $400 shipped.

Found some info on this topic on ebay about hub adapters or hub centric rings.
Inner Diameter (your vehicle's hub diameter) is specific to your vehicle. From earlier in this thread the Cobalt hub is 65.1mm, o.k. so then carefully measure the Outer Diameter (your wheel's center bore) or ask a pro if they know.
The most common aftermarket center bores are 72.62mm and 73.1mm.
The center bores of other popular wheel manufacturers are as follows:
Axis: 73.1mm
Enkei: 72.62mm
Konig: 73.1mm
Momo: 72.62mm
Sport Max: 73.1mm
5Zigen: 73.1mm
TSW: 72mm, 76mm

I kno i am kinda late on this post. But i was researchin hub rings when i came across this according to summit and many other sites the cobalts hub are between 2.250 in.-2.253 which translates in metric to 57.15 mm- 57.23mm wether it be 4 or 5 lug. I own a set that are 56.15 and they went on my 06' with a little bit of persuading but it was a 4 lug. So im thinkin the cobalt hubs could be around 56.1 give or take a lil not 65.1 bc 65.1 isnt even a very well known hub diameter.
