Tested Silver and Gold PlastiDip Metalizer(Lots of Pics)

Hey everyone, I know there are a bunch of Plastidip threads on here and I have been all over them but i did some testing today and took a bunch of pics im sure people would like to see

I have an old Infiniti FX wheel sitting around so I tested with that. The finish is the same color but pretty beat up as you can see from the orig pic. I have some imperfections on my OEM wheels that should be covered under warranty. I won’t be doing Plastidip on my wheels until that gets settled.

I used 3-4 coats of black Plastidip
3 coats Silver Metalizer on half
3 coats Gold Metalizer on other half

Thoughts:
So the orig Plastidip looks cool but im not a big fan of black wheels anymore. Both Metalizers add a nice gold\sliver flake.

Silver Metalizer: The flake pops in the sun but It does not add enough silver for what I would like. I was looking for more of a gunmetal finish but it looks good. I will likely give this a try first on my wheels; maybe add another coat or 2 to see if it deepens the silver.

Gold Metalizer: a big change to the look. It also pops in the sun. I will def be trying this out at some point.

Orig

3-4 Coats black

3 coats sliver metalizer

3 coats gold metalizer

Misc Shots

Silver Metalizer in the sun.

Gold VS Sliver

Gold overlap on the sliver gave it a lot of flake

looks good man. What im concerned about is how close the gold metalizer can come close to the Gold cashmere metallic color of my 07 LS. Id love to do a gold and black two tone with clear over the top.

Not sure how gold\gold cashmere would work. This stuff is pretty cheap, I say buy a can of the gold and test on a plate or something.

Im just in a bind, i have like 15% tread left on the tires, and didnt plan on doing them before the summer. I have seen what happens to plastidipped wheels when someone without care mounts them.

So in order for me to do anything wild to the wheels like I had planned with black/gold/clear ill have to get tires first.

Are the gold and silver metallizers a form of plastidip themselves or simply metalflake paint in a can? I guess my real question is if I wanted my rims gold would I have to lay down another color of plastidip first or could I just use the metallizer by itself?

Looks sweet! I wanted to try some metalizer out on my wheels and now I know what the results will yield. Thanks!

does the silver over black resemble any type of OEM finish in person? (if i spray that over crappy wheels on a trade in car at my dealership, can I pull off oem look?)

Wow!!! LOL you think someone is gonna bring in paint chips to compare when they look at the car? And I'd be pissed if I bought a car and. Found out that the rims were a shitty finish with pastidip over them! So you work at one of those ghetto car lots that sells cars picked up at auctions?

The metalizers are plastidip but are not noticeable if you do not have a base down. I didnt even bother taking pic's of the small spot of gold i tried.

No, not an OEM look. BTW, your comment adds to the argument that car salesmen\dealers are sleazy bastards
