Usually when these engines do that, it's a blown sleeve, but on the newer gen 2 I haven't seen it yet personally. Every single LSJ that presented like a blown head gasket had a piece of sleeve pushed out the side in my experience. Going with a new block is for sure the best bet, looking forward to seeing what happened.

Really hit me hard when the mech said the main shaft was bad in the turbo. I could have funded the engine build with a couple months of penny pinching but now a turbo added on to that is gonna kill me. Mainly cause I wanted to big turbo it later down the road but now I have to fork out cash to do it when I do the engine.

Ran the numbers have a few options let me know what you think, I know the options I would want to do but it will cost the most. This is all from ZZP site besides the OTTP sleeve kit.
Option 1 stock rebuild ($3606.89): Re sleeve the stock block with OTTP sleeve kit, Wiesco pistons, ZZP rods, arp studs, OEM turbo assembly, gaskets, and new OEM head with cams and adjusters.
Option 2 LDK stock everything($3,206.92): LDK bottom end, new OEM head with cams and adjusters, OEM turbo assembly, arp studs, gaskets.
Option 3 Built LDK bottom end stock top end($4,186.90): LDK bottom end, Wiesco pistons, ZZP rods, arp studs, OEM turbo assembly, OEM head with cams and adjusters.
Option 4 Built and turboed ($7,171.85): LDK bottom, Wiesco pistons, ZZP rods, Arp studs, ZZP turbo manifold, Tial 38mm waist gate, S256et turbo .55 vband, ZZP big turbo downpipe, ported head with stage 1 cam and 83lb springs, gaskets.
Option 5 Built bottom stock head S256et ($5,861.88): LDK bottom, Wiesco pistons, ZZP rods, Arp studs, OEM head with cam and rockers/adjusters, S256et .55 vband, big turbo down pipe, gaskets, Tial 38mm wastegate, zzp vband turbo manifold
I would LOVE option 4 but my wallet hates it, and it would take a while to save up that much to buy the parts. Talking 6 months to save up, maybe more unless I can get a relative to front me a small loan.

If i go big turbo on oem head with stage 1 cam will i be safe with the stock replacement springs or should i upgrade to an 82# or supertech 78# kit? titanium retainers obviously. Also what about balance shafts?
Also where can i get a new water pump chain? Timing chain and guides were alright looking but the water pump chain was broke. Where can i get a replacement and should i get a new water pump?

Where would i get either a full timing kit with that chain included or if everything is ok where would i get just that chain?

I added a water pump, timing kit, and balance kit to the list just to be safe but no balance shafts. I wasnt too sure if I needed to replace those, or if the LDK comes with them already.
ZZP LDK listing states this: "Does not include the water pump, timing chain assembly (guides/chain), or the front cover" But i figured I would just swap over balance shafts form my LNF if it needs them.

Should i get new balance shafts or just the balance chain/kit?

Did you just re-use your stock shafts or did you go with something else? I kind of want to go neutral shafts since everything else will be set up to raise the rev limit to 7000+ but I hear the vibrations at idle are not fun, also its going to be a DD so that wouldn't be too fun. Unless my girlfriend rides with me everywhere, she might enjoy it.

I re-used mine but only 30k miles on the car. **** man after my experience I just say buy a complete LDK and have ZZP install cams, springs, whatever you're planning. Simple motor swap and you're done.

Here is what im thinking so far. I am just going to put the money into it now and build it while its down.
LDK block
Wiseco Forged pistons
ZZP rods
Arp Head studs
Ecotech rod bearings
New head non ported
Stage 1 comp cams
Reuse rockers/lash adjusters/valves
Supertech 78# springs
Bullseye S256ET
Tial 38mm wastegate
ZZP turbo manifold
ZZP manual boost controller
ZZP Big turbo downpipe Vband
New water pump
ZZP timing chain tensioner
New Timing chain kit
New balance chain kit
Stock Balance shafts
MPX injen charge pipe
OTTP rotated trans mounts
Gaskets and break in oil
ZZP oil feed and return lines
And since i just bough my intercooler the day it blew i will be adding my new ZZP intercooler to it
I will probably have ZZP install the pistons and rods and keep the stock ones and I will do the head work or if I dont feel confident enough I will take it to my mechanic, then I plan to throw it all together. Maybe have my mechanic time it since I would feel more comfortable that way.
When I'm up at ZZP picking up parts I am going to drop off my pcm and have them wipe my trifecta tune and put a canned tune on it and ship it back to me to break it in. Then once its broke in I plan to trailer it up to ZZP and have them custom tune it and shoot for 450whp or 400wtq max. since im still on stock trans and axles, Dont want to break them till I can do a F40 6speed and stage 5 axles. then back to ZZP to break the 500hp mark.
This is just what i have as my plan now.

Well I am getting a loan fronted to get all my parts so I can get the car running and driving. Here is my list of parts I plan to buy with the loan.
From zzp:$8,893.82 picked up
Gen3 LDK short block
Wiseco Forged pistons
Ecotec 4340 rods
Ecotec rod bearings
Water pump
LNF head with new rockers/lash adjusters/spark plugs
Stage 1 cam
82# valve springs
Arp head studs
Head gasket
LNF turbo upgrade stage 2 kit
-recirculating waste dump
-catless downpipe
-250-400hp tune with manual boost controller
-s256et turbo
-Upper and lower charge pipes (stage 2 kit)
Tial blowoff valve
Clutchmaster stage 4
6 quarts joe gibbs break in oil
From Oreily's:$298.12 shipped
Cloyes balance shaft kit
Cloyes timing chain kit
Oil filter
ZZP is going to charge me the following
valve springs and cam install to new head $200
Rods, rod bearings, and piston install to new block $250
Is there anything I am missing for the rebuild putting the block together and timing on my own?
Total $9,641.94 + $100 in gas to zzp and back

I am one to agree, I want a stronger trans bad but zzp doesn't have any F40 kits in stock. I thought the other option was outdated and the F40 was the best priced route at the moment. I plan on just tuning to low 400s torque on the stock trans till either the kit comes back or I find another option.

Or the smarter option now that what you said to me is hitting me in the wallet:
Complete LDK engine
LNF turbo upgrade (Same as last listing)
Tial blowoff valve
6 quarts Joe gibbs break in oil
Clutch Master stage 4
Then, Jump on the stance super sport coilover group buy
Super sport coils
then get some new tires wider 245s instead of stock 225s
Total: $8447.30
