As a result the higher content (IRS vs. solid just as one example) will mean the Camaro V6s will cost more at the same option level than the Stang/Challeneger. Then the V8 Camaro won't be in the same competiton class as the Mustang GT or the Challenger Hemi. Its got 25+ hp on the closest engine at the low end (automatic). It's also got brembo brakes, much larger wheels, better tires, better suspension, etc. This will definitely make it more expensive than the Stang GT/Challenger Hemi for the same option level, there is just no way around it.

The way the 422 SS is optioned out makes it much more like the Challenger SRT8 than it does the Hemi. It will be faster, handle better, out brake it, and likely have the better interior. On paper it is its superior, so I think that the argument that it will be priced more like the normal Hemi than the SRT8 does not hold much water.
Good points...

I haven't seen it suggested yet and since you mentioned being involved in the coupe design I'm guessing you'd prefer that for nostalgia reasons, but have you considered the SS Turbo sedan? Not sure of the age of your children but maybe that would be a little more functional if you've got a family. Identical power, really close in weight, and it should drive/handle exactly like the coupe.

It's next Friday, Sept 26th. Meeting on Woodward and 13 1/2 mile road. South bound side, there's a Caribou Coffee, Pot Belly Sandwich Co, & Verizon wireless store where Bombay used to be. We'll be out there all Friday evening... Bring the Sol!

Alright everyone, well the Solstice is out and an 08 SS/TC is coming in on Monday. Long story short, I was having some trouble with the Solstice and I found a dealer who would give me a fair trade in for it and put me in an 08 SS/TC Victory Red: low spoiler, limited slip, xm, onstar, black on black interior. I'll be picking it up Monday barring all the paper work and final offer on the Solstice. Wish me luck. I am pumped to be back in the Cobalt family.

Def not! I'm 47 and I just bought my 09 SS/TC. In the last 7 years I have owned:
06 Civic Si
87 Toyota Supra
01 Toyota Celica

I have a 07 Kawi ZX6R and I traded in my Honda 599 on it.

You're only as old as you let yourself be!

Hey so I am buying this 08 SS TC in Ohio tommorow, and I from MI. I am trying to figure out the tax and titling situation. I assume that I would pay no titling fees, or tax to the state of OH, but that upon my arrival to MI I would pay the 6% tax and titling fees here. Does that sound right? I just don't want to get screwed paying tax twice. Has anyone ever bought across state lines?

I've bought more than a couple out of state vehicles while I was stationed somewhere when I was still active duty in the military and also after I got out. I'm mostly familiar with California which is a little more complex on bringing a new vehicle into the state if it doesn't have California emissions, but most states shouldn't be too bad. If you're flying or driving down to pick up the car and have your own financing or through the dealer lined up most dealers will be pretty familiar how to handle out of state sales.

In general there will probably be one of a couple different things depending on the state you're buying from (OH) and where you live (MI). What's most common is that the state you're buying from will contact your state's department of motor vehicles or similar branch and determine title and tax fees, collect them at the time of sale, then forward to your states application DMV and/or tax assessor. In that case you wouldn't pay taxes or fees in Ohio other than maybe a temporary vehicle permit to drive the car, etc. and then have to pay your own states taxes.

That would be most common. Other ways I've seen things done is that if the selling dealer does the contract showing the vehicle is going out of state they collect no local taxes or licensing and it's your responsibility to pay them when you bring the car into and register/title in your state. In some cases it might be possible to cheat a state out of taxes by doing it that way so many states have agreements with other states to ensure they collect and forward on the taxes at time of sale to make sure they get paid.

I guess it would also be possible for one state to charge you a sales tax and then your state still charge you a full sales tax if you immediately bring the car into that state and register as a new vehicle. More likely like where I used to live and grew up in the northwest the state would only collect a partial tax on the difference if the selling state has lower tax rates than your own state.

The absolute best bet before you go down to pick up the car is to go down or talk with your local department of motor vehicles or whoever handles your tax/title/license/registration for your state and tell them you're going to be importing a new vehicle into the state and what the policy and fees will be. Then get on the internet and find Ohio's DMV information and contact them and explain you're going to be buying a vehicle and taking it out of that state. The dealer should know or be able to find out all this for you but many times they only care about the immediate sale so do the research yourself to ensure everything is being done correctly.

Also if you're buying out of state and have arranged a sales price make sure to get a contract in writing before flying or driving down. That way they can't change anything, try to slip in other fees, or raise the price when you get there. A reputable dealer shouldn't do anything like that to prey on you being there and spending all that time and effort to get there bout you never know. Also your best bet is to get a pre-approved loan and take a cashiers check from your local bank or credit union to take with you for the full sales price if you're going to finance the car, but if you're going to finance through the dealer make sure to do all the paperwork and/or get everything in writing before heading down there. I've seen too many cases where a dealer tells someone they will get xx interest rate but that changes and they try to jack it up and that's when the people are local and live in the same town as the dealer.

If you've got any other specific questions try to go directly to the source (DMV or tax board/assessor in each state) but you might also want to start your own new thread in the regional sections here on the forums for those states. That should get you get some better visibility than this thread and maybe someone from that area will see it and can give you some additional tips. Good luck on the new car.

You are correct. You can purchase the car and drive it straight home. As long as you have proof of purchase, you should be fine. Next step is to get the vehicle insured, registered, and pay the taxes in MI. Insurance is done with your insurance company obviously. The rest - at a Secretary of State branch. They will give you a plate and paperwork showing the vehicle has been registered. At this point, it is legal to drive the car in MI. Details can be found at www.michigan.gov/sos .

That's a bad ass sketch! I really like it! For a second the fog lamps in the bottom of the bumper sorta remind me of a Scion Tc, but now it doesn't... I may be stealing that part of your sketch off of you in the future.

Congrats on your purchase!

Yeah, probably...but, you should never let common sense get in the way of a car buying decision.

I just joined this forum; because I am seriously considering the purchase of a SS/TC sedan. I've got a few years on you...I'm 71. BTW, my daily driver is currently an 05 GTO.

You're only as old as you feel.
