$22,995 was for the 2008 model.

Yes, the 2009 went up in price. Welcome to a world of high steel prices...

Its not the high steel prices. Its the drop in SUV and truck sales, which is where GM made all of its profits. It was in an interview with Lutz and Wagner. They relied so much on the truck and bus sales that the dealerships were only making about $400 off the sale of each car. Wagner said they would have to compensate for that by raising prices in small cars.

^ I was thinking that exact same thing. But I'm sure steel prices played a factor as well.

You're right, I don't know anything...

I only work for GM and knew about the pricing change to ALL 2009MY VEHICLES long before you did. It isn't just cars; it's trucks, SUVs and crossovers.

This has to do with a great many factors, it isn't simply inflating the price because they are selling better than SUV's...

Furthermore it seems as though you are confused about the fact that Lutz and Wagoner discussed building better more expensive small cars because the consumer would actually purchase them now. Enter the Cruze...

They weren't talking about simply raising the prices on their current cars JUST because they are starting to sell better.

The dealership made no money on it (my 09 tc) at all,in fact they lost $450 overall on my sale, but made some up with my trade that sold 3 days later. It does'nt surprise me at all(bump in price),and still the best buy compared to competitor cars offered in the same bracket,IMO.

The base MSRP for my 09 is $22,995. Pricing was increased right after the EP ended regardless of year.

Maybe when GM sees the sales of this car drop they will reduce the cost back to the old price. The low base price was one of the main reasons people bought this car.

Doubtful $1,100 is not much and it is on the "SS" models. Also there was some "upgrades" the 2009 have, so I am sure that also plays a roll.

Yup. And the rebates too!

I ended up paying 20.2k for my SC (roof/polished wheels).

So even with the "improvements", I'd be hard pressed to go 25k+ ...

The dealership down the road from my house has a black 09' SS I've been staring at for the past month. I have a black 07' LT Cobalt now, and I'm thinknig about trading it in for that SS here in a few weeks... Advice?

you really believe that the dealership did not make any money on your car. Yes they say that but there not a charity they dont sell cars for ***** and gigles. they made at least a grand on it. they just wanted to make you feel like you were getting an awesome deal

Bull, show me the monroney!

The price increase was for 2009 only, not 2008.

Yes, without destination charge, which we always include the the base price. So $22,775 + 660 destination = the base price for the 2009 at $23,435...and it has now gone up to $24,095

This is not just a Cobalt SS change, but a global change to all 2009 GM vehicles, moving forward.

I never said anything about base price, but I did said MSRP. MSRP by definition, excludes destination charges.

My point is this is the MSRP for the 09 model BEFORE the 9/30 EP ended.

Bullshit, we price MSRP with destination included. I work for the ******* company, don't tell me how we price things.

The $22,775 is the vehicle price, NOT the base MSRP...

...But the sticker clearly said "Manufacturer Suggest Retail Price [Standard Vehicle Price $22,775]" and a "Total Vehicle Price" with all options and des.

I am not trying to argue, I am simply reading what the sticker saids.

Ok, MSRP for the car is what you ahve at the end of the math box, including options and destination charge.

So the MSRP on my car was $25,150 which includes the options and destination charge.

So the standard vehicle price is $22,775 + $660 destination charge = the total MSRP for a base 2009 Cobalt SS with NO options.

MSRP is the total vehicle price including destination.
